Elon Musk
"OpenAI, Inc. has been transformed into a closed-source de facto subsidiary of the largest technology company in the world: Microsoft. Under its new board, it is not just developing but is actually refining an AGI to maximize profits for Microsoft, rather than for the benefit of humanity,"

- a) kinda agree
b) don't believe his motivation is altruistic in the slightestkalkal - hah, it is daft. MS trying to throw us off the scent by investing in their 'competitors'kingsteven

- He probably never did. He's an egomaniac and a genius (of sorts). He has an idea and can back it up with sales + numbers (that he makes up).formed
- He really just wanted more power and to control what people hear. He's realizing people don't care what he thinks and must be humiliated. Woohoo.formed
- It very much seems like he does think people care about what he thinks.kalkal

- I'm a little worried Musk will try to buy Midjourney.yuekit

- I'm surprised so many people here find it interesting. GANs aren't a new tool, they are your future replacement.garbage

- GANs are your replacement? What is this, 2020 again?kalkal
- It's what 2010 said, and nobody listened. Shit like Midjourney are baby engines, and when people are "having fun" with them..garbage
- ..they are training their own future obsolescence. I don't care how skilled you are, virtually everyone here will be useless in a decade at best.garbage
- MJ is a diffusion model not a GAN <_<
Also, I agree, creating models that create great synthetic data that can the be used to further later training is the waykalkal - forwardkalkal
- Diffusion Models are used to fuel GANs and VAEs. It's all part of the cycle.garbage
- So I guess I should have been more specific, but basically MJ and others are feeling a deathloop for creatives.garbage
- *feedinggarbage
- I think you're getting your terminology a bit mixed up, GANs are a specific type of neural network and doesn't inherently have any connection to diffusion.kalkal
- I'm actually not, and they actually do. What we're going to see is diffusion models and variational autoencoders..garbage
- ..being seasoned with GANs. They're all married.garbage
- Hourglass and pixel space diffusion is where it's going, away from gans - There's a strong chance that SD3 will be replacing the VAE with something along thesekalkal

QBN New York
Yoooo! Looking for advice or tips.
My daughter and I are taking a trip to the East Coast. We're going to D.C. and NYC and will be in New York March 10th-12th it's my first time. I know it's not a very long time so I'm trying to do the best stuff I can on this trip.
Here is what we are interested in doing:
-Want to eat the most New York things possible, NY Bagels, NY Hot Dog, Pizza, Jewish Deli, etc..
-Street Photography a full day or half day plus camera shops
-Want to see something in the way of Hip-Hop culture, graffiti, record shops, etc.
-Nightime skyline view and photos
-For nightlife, a dope dive bar, or something with live indie bands, or house music club
-At least one good art or photography museum
-Chinatown? or Japan? or Korea town? lol
-Maybe have a beer or cocktail with one of you mofos?
We are staying at the Martinique Hotel on Broadway and 32nd st.
:-)
- BHP is all i got. Oh, and Katz's for "Harry met Sally" vibes, tho it's supposedly shite these days.hans_glib
- Sup with Katz's Deli?HijoDMaite
- When I went they told me to see battery park, I wanted to, but ran out of time. I did go see the village (east village) near NYC campus, that was dope. Also thecherub
- whole foods near union station, we walked to some hotel nearby and went to bar on the top floor and you can see some awsm skyline views...cherub
- I saw hester street near where mean streets was filmed, and also arthur street in the bronx. italian neighborhoods.cherub
- Heads-up: anyone who hasn’t been here since before the pandemic may give bad recommendations. Many places and even neighborhoods got lame since the WFH phenomennb
- ORLY? which onescherub
- ok cool cherub thanks! yeah, I hear that nb, same here in LA, bunch of places shut down after covd :-(HijoDMaite
- I was hoping there was a street like Melrose in L.A. for cool shoppingHijoDMaite
- There's a place like that in Brooklyn called greenpoint but now I fear it doesn't exist. awwww damcherub
- “Outer” hoods like greenpoint have developed a lot, actually. Williamsburg is like the cool downtown.nb
- You’ll find that midtown, Hell’s Kitchen, Murray hill have lost a lot of activity.nb
- If you're hotel is in Herald Square, you're around the block from the Empire State Building. It may sound cliche but those are the best views on Earth.CyBrainX
- Also, your hotel is in Korea Town. I think 32nd Street has the best restaurants.CyBrainX
- Your kid is a young adult? For night life try Astor place and walk east down St Marks then south down into lower east side if you don’t find a bar or restaurantnb
- But you will!!nb
- For camara shops, look into B and H Photo and/or Adorama.CyBrainX
- Live indie and house is easiest to find in Williamsburg and Bushwicknb
- Katz is still good but touristy as hell. But you’re also a tourist so whatevs. There are many delis and diners with great pastraminb
- Hot dogs are meh, but grab one from a cart. You’ll get the experience. Don’t overpay in a tourist area, they’re all the samenb
- B&H is so dope. Camera lover heaven.cherub
- awesome! thanks guys. yes, she is 22.HijoDMaite
- Great photos from Tudor City. 2nd Ave Deli if you want the Jewish deli experience and know Katz is overrated.monospaced
- Walk the high line on the west side and get killer pizza at the southern end. It’s also great orthography there and some playgrounds not farmonospaced
- Battery Park for family strolls. Eat some lamb over rice from a Halal Cart. Union square jazz during farmers market on Saturday morning.monospaced
- H&H bagels is the best. Stay AWAY from anything even near Penn Station or tourist places like Times Square. Not worth it. Ever.monospaced
- And just know you’re gonna walk. It’s part of the vibe. Make sure everyone’s ok board. Go to the Comedy Cellar? Forget how old the kids ar.monospaced
- Doing a rooftop bar is nice!
Went to this one at night: Spyglass Rooftop Barmilfhunter - The Hip Hop Museum:
610 Exterior Street
Bronx, NY 10451stoplying - Beastie boys square is right around the corner from Katz. ICP is good for a show, Chinatown nom wah dim sum. Joes shanghai soup dumplings. Good dive bars LESBH26
- The best museum is the Met. You could spend weeks there. Moma is good too.nb
- Fotografiska is a better photography museum than ICP, but it depends on what the feature show is.nb
- Awesome suggestions guys!! Thanks so much!HijoDMaite
- I think employees only is still on. If there’s such thing as a sophisticated dive bar, this place would be it.maikel
- I also love small’s - that’s the club that appears in Whiplash. But you gotta like jazz for it to be worth it.maikel
- Hip hop museum is shut down until 2025HijoDMaite
- I might head out to Queens Bridge projects and challenge someone to a rap battleHijoDMaite

religion
^
I've spent a fair amount of time in Italy these last few years, and have seen the grandest of edifices put up in Christ's name - as they have been in my own and many other country's too, obviously - but the sheer opulence of the ones in Italy, at the height of the respective powers that comprised it? It's crazy-ridiculous.And against everything Christ himself taught.
It's so crazy to me how the entiriety of Christ's teaching has been so utterly mangled and abused to exact power, might and capital in the hands and roots that grew the sheer perversion that is the catholic, and most every other, church.
But here we are, and it's entirely normalised.
- All the symbols ( † ), sainthoods and relics etc go completely against Christ's actual teachings too... 'perversion' is too kind a wordPonyBoy
- When I lived there I spent a lot of time in their churchesGnash
- Always something to learn, from small family chapels to cathedralsGnash
- It did fuel many serious art movements and there’s some merit to that of course.monospaced

recommend tv series
First episode of the new Avatar on Netflix, flawless for me. As its very suitable watch with your kids. I did listen to its full score twice, before watching the first episode :) So epic score, yeah and I hope it doesn't go downhill later on.

- As an responsible father I very much appreciated Suki the Kyoshi Warrior. :) It's a great adaptation, thoroughly enjoying it so far.Morning_star
- Yep just last night, squeezed in the last two episodes. I loved the animated series and the lore of that, so it's cool to see it done properly.PhanLo
- Only watched the first 2 episodes, but they were fantastic! Loved the cartoon series, hated the movie, looking forward to the rest of this!Akagiyama
- really? oh man, now I have to watch it, I was dreading/ assuming that it would be shit and not hold a candle to the cartoon_niko
- I think they did really well with the show budget to make it close to a movie, you can tell some bits don't have the large amounts of extras or set detail...PhanLo
- ...but the main cast is decentPhanLo
