mrdinky, i also think there are many brand issues with this site.
brand is not just a logo (which i am sure you know) but it has many touch points. even more in interactive design.
i think there are several that don't really excel the CT brand.
first off are color choices, they seem far to pedistrain and not really thought outthen there is the cluttered nature of the pages with no real focus, i dont think any of the brick and mortor stores are clutter or you don't know where to look to find something
everything being animated and jumping around on main pages, when you walk into the stores there is a real thought to flow of how the customer moves through out the store, when i come to the main pages i feel like there are a bunch of juggling clowns (animated gifs) running at me.
i could go on and on and i wont get into interaction touch points, but again for how much research is claimed for the visual design of this site i certainly don't see it.

like i have said, have many of you worked on a project that had a budget of over $1 million?
most expansive project that i worked on was $2.8 billion so i was a tiny tiny dust on the project....
many you guys dont understand the enormity of the project that size...
i am here to brag about the size of the project cause i rather work on smaller ones cause i get more clear over view.... rahter than just doing part of my thing and not knowing whats happening on others.

"IF THIS RESEARCH WAS FAULTY AND LIKE YOU SAID ITS HARD FOR USER TO USE IT, HOW DOES IT MAKE MONEY? "
"the user will muddle through..."

yeah, despite the fact that I thnk you are a great fella, Dinky...
you keep saying the same and almost ignore our points....
do you think bbc.co.uk was cheap?
you need stronger motivation here, pal......
- MrDinky0
hey kids...
dont think that i dont know what you guys are talking about..
yes there ARE alot of issues...
if i didnt work on it this and saw this i would say the same.BUT i know what was put in to it and why we did it that way....
you guys not knowing the full scope of the project and bashing it very unfair.

3cY are you crazy!!!
"brand strategy wise;this one is still a better one overall:
Anyone know the costs of amazon? "
this might not be your favorite execution of a brand but you cannot argue this brands impact has had. every ecommerce web site on the web rips off thier tab navigation including CT!!!!

not BASHING it...damnit....
come on Dinky....be constructive, not ignorant...
Most here are frontend/visual designers....
our critique is mainly about THAT part.....and we have valid reasons to say it could have been done a whole lot better!

i think bbc is an awesome site
like i have said YES i understand it and YES i know what you guys are talking about.
if i had FULL control of the site i would do it MUCH better but i didnt.
BUT i worked on that project and i worked my ass off trying to address what you guys are telling me.If my theory didnt work and users decided to not come to site and didnt buy anything, i would be fucked.
the bottom line is that, the site works, its making money to cover operate, in a DOWN MARKET.

TRNSMTR....wtf?

i think matt and the rest have very valid points, and agree with them on some levels.
but, i also think that there is some lack of experience from others, the creative web, like some flash-pan site is merely a scratch on the surface of any real business application.
and, the idea that a site like bbc (which is a great site), or amazon or any large scale e-com site could be handled alone and in a month or two with some flash and simple client and server side trickery.
matt raised some great information architecture points, and i think it might be something overlooked in the design of the site.

kudos for that anyways, Dinky.

"develop in it some php, html and flash is NOT creating a business platform."
thanks, but i've done sites with million dollar budgets by myself with control over 3-tier business models (front end, business, and data tier) asp/sql/html/dhtml/javascript/vb... in 4 months. granted they were not the scale of this site, but they were big enough to grant me the authority to guage whether this site was worth the cost. thanks!
