Can anyone tell me why blood transfusions violate religious beliefs?
- Jaline0
Their beliefs regarding blood transfusion, which were not stated publicly until 1945, are based on a literal interpretation of the Old Testament. One commonly cited reference used to explain their refusal of blood transfusions states, "For it [the blood] is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof; therefore I say unto the children of Israel, ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof. Whoever eateth it shall be cut off." (Leviticus 17:14)
Jehovah's Witnesses believe that God has forbidden them to "eat blood," and blood transfusions are analogous to eating blood. While opposing blood transfusions on religious grounds, they are eloquent in their discussions of blood transfusion hazards, yet fail to mention the benefits of transfusion.[2] Interestingly, their faith permits the consumption of animal meat. Jehovah's Witnesses usually will refuse all whole blood and blood component transfusions, such as red blood cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate, or stem cells.

It's biblical interpretation. They believe you shouldn't consume blood because it's sacred. It's apparently pisses the Blood God off.

thanks jaline!

which is odd, because i was pretty sure the blood god was in charge of the red cross.

They're more sane than Christian Scientists I'd wager. I can't speak badly about JW's, they're probably my favorite xtians.
- Jaline0
you're welcome.
- brandelec0
you ARE smarter than me :)
- Jaline0

It violates their religious beliefs because they're batshit crazy, oddly enough they are very very nice people

when parents harm, abuse, neglect care for their children, social care takes them away
why isn't the same done here ?
- Jaline0
sometimes the parents don't even have much to do with it. sometimes the kids just run away and do somewhere else so that they don't have to do the blood tranfusion.
- nLHb0
her mom was the one who convinced her not to have the transfusion, her dad wanted her to get it, right?
- brandelec0
not sure, but she's definitely a trooper
- Hym0
ok so the solution is simple
make it illegal for underage people to attend religious gatherings, the shit will be over fast if there are no tools for indoctrination, oh and also ban that crap from tv
heheh extremist atheism, thats a new one

For a difinitive answer why not ask them the next time they call on your door. Get it from the source.
Its important to note that while we refuse blood transfusions we seek all means of medical treatment available that do not conflict with our religious beliefs and blood transfusions are pretty much the only medical treatment we refuse.

What Jaline listed in the first post is accurate.
JW's do not apply sound hermeneutical principles in their study of the Bible. This is fundamentally the reason why they arrive at their errant interpretations and why they can read an Old Testament ceremonial regulation regarding ritualistic consumption of animal blood and somehow make a connection to the modern-day life-saving medical technique of blood transfusion. There was a time when they banned organ transplants as well. They lifted that ban many years later after receiving "new light" (and after untold numbers of people died on operating tables).
JW's are not considered Christians by mainstream Christianity because they deviate from essential Biblical doctrines.

Don’t you mean doctrine as created by Christendom who adopted pagan rituals to gain converts. And where that didnt work they resorted to "conversion" AKA the crusades.
