I think that this Mighty Thread might just lose out to the MJ thread. 146 posts in like 8 minutes. Insane...it's almost like it's the work of an Intelligent Designer...

mimio...this is how i see it.:
scientology is based on a book by L. Ron Hubbard.....a sci fi writer. There's humor in that.
Not to mention that if you want to move up to higher levels in the organization, you have to take these classes..which cost more and more as you progress. So you'
re paying for your advancement. At least if you want to move up in the leadership in a Baptist church, you don't have to pay for a class.

No, no, no..scientology was a secondary track..we must get back to the Bible as the literal word of god or not and it's consequence on the meaning and development of science. No thread drift..none...
- Mimio0
So what Xaos,
Xtianity wants 10% off the top.
- xaoscontrol0
churches have to run somehow. they got utility bills like the rest of us. and those are DONATIONS...there's nothing but your own concience telling you that you "SHOULD contribute your 10%"....and it has nothing to do with progression....

focus people, focus...together we can make this the longest thread ever...

I know families who have been politely asked to leave catholic churches because they couldnt pay their tidings, no BS.

(Jun 13 05, 14:44)That's not right!! Dudn't happen in most Protestant churches. That's terrible.
- Mimio0
My point is Xaos, from another perspective xtianity is a scam too. Twenty million dollar mega churches, that don't pay taxes filled with over-paid staffers aren't exactly free from the same criticism as hollywood relgions.

Since this thread has NOTHING to do with science any longer fine.
Mimio that's like most Non-Profit organizations. Take a look at hospitals. Non-profit my *ss.

"The account of origins in Genesis has been relegated to “religion,” but what has been taught at school concerning origins has been labeled as “science.” What has happened is that the church has handed over the teaching of geology, biology, astronomy, anthropology, etc., to the secular public school systems. "
This from Discipler's fav site
http://www.answersingenesis.org/…
Ironic that the article makes the church "handed over" teaching all these scientific subjects when for centuries the church fought tooth and nail against exactly these theories? How nice of them to concede now that they really thought them up ion the first place and then "handed them" to us secular humanists to corrupt good christian thinking in our vile public schools...
- xaoscontrol0
oh I know your point, mimio it won;'t be long before scientology tries to get the tax break too....
seperation of church and state, right? BAH HUMBUG
the catholic church pulling that doesn't surprise me....I think I've heard of some protestant churches doing the same, though...that ain't right, fo sheesy

"The Church has opposed every innovation and discovery from the day of Galileo down to our own time, when the use of anesthetics in childbirth was regarded as a sin because it avoided the biblical curse pronounced against Eve. And every step in astronomy and geology ever taken has been opposed by bigotry and superstition. The Greeks surpassed us in artistic culture and in architecture five hundred years before Christian religion was born."
-- Mark Twain, a Biography"His Holiness decreed that the said Galileo is to be interrogated with regard to his intention, even with the threat of torture, and, if he sustains [i.e., answers satisfactorily], he is to abjure de vehementi [i.e., renounce a vehement suspicion of heresy] in a plenary assembly of the Congregation of the Holy Office, then is to be condemned to imprisonment as the Holy Congregation thinks best, and ordered not to treat further, in any way at all, either verbally or in writing, of the mobility of the earth and the stability of the sun; otherwise he will incur the penalties for relapse. The book entitled Dialogo de Galileo Galilei is to be prohibited. Furthermore, that these things may be known by all, he ordered that copies of the sentence be sent to all Apostolic Nuncios, to all Inquisitors against heretical pravity, and especially the Inquisitor in Florence, who shall read publicly the sentence in the presence of as many as possible of those who profess the mathematical art."
-- Papal decision entered into the record of the Holy Office, 1633-----------------
And now they want to tell us Science has ALWAYS really been based on the bible? Lunacy...

If we were created by ID why would we be put on earth? Just to sort us out with some going up and some going down. And why create a less-than-perfect being that fights itself and uses all the resources ultimately distroying the environment. Why make eve attractive, setting up adam for failure?
Religious wars? Most sane people should see this as a oxymoron.
Sounds more like misguided design to me.
- Mimio0
Good point kld,
Along the same lines...why would a ID'r create a predator/prey relationship or a parasitic relationship amoung animals? for it's own sick amusement?

(Jun 13 05, 15:13)Who the hell ever said we are destroying the environment?
ReThink that thought.
According to whom?
Environmentalists with their own agenda? The Environment was worse off throughout Geologic History, proven in the rock record. Now there is some science for you Mr.Tick. ;)
