"By removing more than 400 children from a religious compound in Texas earlier this month, state authorities carried out one of the largest mass removals of minors from their parents in the country. They also set in motion a future face-off between the state and a religious movement that seeks to live in a closed society, making oversight difficult if not impossible."
Video of the mothers dodging questions:
So...where are the men?
"...including a 16-year-old who had four children."
i am a non-violent human by nature, but this makes me want to go to the other side.
I saw some piece on CNN last night with one of these mothers takeing the journalist on a tour of the ranch. Showing the bedrooms, the girls' dresses, and the livingroom, which was this giant empty room with about 30 crappy chairs arranged in semi circles around a central leather easy chair (presumably for the 'daddy'). There was also the dininig room which looked like a shitty military base mess hall with flourescent lighting (army/airforce brats will knwo what i mean).
Plus, the woman was like totally sedated. She talked and moved like a brainwashed zombie. Overall, chilling. Nothing homey or family-like about it at all. Total cult.
Were they paying taxes?
It's interesting because I just finished John Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven days before the police busted the ranch. The book gives the history of Fundamentalist Mormons and relates a lot of the stories of it's founding. It also talks about and gives the history of the guys who ran the ranch that was busted.
It's a great, if haunting read. It talks about how polygamy came about in Mormonism and airs a lot of the skeletons in Mormondom's closet, and there are a lot. Definitely worth a read to really understand at least how these people came to be who and where they are. Scary though. Scary indeed.
F-in that religion just boggles my noodle. Total wakkos, the lot of them.
I enjoy how they did an about face on polygamy when the Federal gov't said they had to stop practicing it if they wanted to be a state. So the main dud issues an edict that God"says polygamy is no longer cool, and this is after God initially said that the only way to get into heaven was to have a bunch of wives.
I guess the mormon god is not as infallible as other gods.
- Agreed. Of course the only reason polygamy originally became "ordained by god" was because Joe Smith was a horny, womanizing bastard.mandomafioso
- ...horny, womanizing bastard.mandomafioso
- you forgot greedy and egomanicalflashbender
- haha. laughing at my own comment ;)
I hit save too soon.flashbender
i dont think anyone has been arrested yet..
i dont agree with the cult, but i dont think the gov can just rip kids from a community.. kinda fucked up all around
- they can and they did, and they will be separated from the adults until this goes to trail - however long that will be.flashbender
- Exactly, Seff. I'm not sure sending every child to foster care is the "right" way. Maybe it should be case-by-case.Jaline
- yes and no. These adults involved in this knew that they were breaking the law. Playing ignorant doesn't cut it.Point5
- just be careful. either way can be harmful..vrmbr
It's institutional child abuse.
just go live in UT for a while. You won't need any books or the news to tell you what's going on.
on second thought, don't.
this video is frightening. are these people or robots?
Keep in mind it's a real misconception that DCF and the state loves coming in and ripping kids out of their home. Not true at all, having lived with someone in that field for several years, and knowing many others.
It's pretty rare actually, and very costly and a serious pain in the ass for the state to get involved. It's usually the other way around - kids who are in dire need of help get none. So for this to happen means serious shit is going down. We've probably heard the mere tip of the story.
"I would like....my children back...
and, I would like.....a new hairdo..."
man, these women are well trained. they're dodging Larry King's tell-the-truth bullet.
I hope and believe the bust is for the best. Those kids need to be out of that effed up situation. With any luck they'll live the rest of their lives out of the reach of the FLDS sociopathic men.
These people are fundamentally mental
Oh, I use the word "men" loosely in my initial post.
not for the sake of flaming anything, but i wouldn't mind flagellum' (or whatever their name is now) perspective on the matter.

It is a toss-up between Texas and Florida with the wackest people found in the U.S.
