i'm not really into drones, but it's good to see an example where strega isn't just making some hideous distortion racket
- Yeah I like the delay and filter.mort_
- Was thinking of getting the 0 Ctrl + Strega to complement 0 Coast but I've actually grown a bit tired of the sound of the 0 Coast.mort_
- For similar money, a modest modular case would be much more flexible.mort_
- the 0-ctrl really changes what you can get out of the 0-coasthans_glib
- I think it's the range of timbres that I'm a little bored with. I may have OD'd on it. Not sure the sequencer would help with that.mort_
- FM'ing the 0-Coast's oscillator with something else (modular in my case) really breathes new life into it.section_014
- the 0-ctrl is way more than a sequencer. it can change the timbre and dynamic of the 0coast, and all manenr of other odd trickerieshans_glib
- Interesting. A used one came up a few weeks ago for ~€300 but it was outside the 5km travel limit here. I may keep an eye out.mort_
- I'll experiment with the LinFM input. Hadn't thought of that. Nice one section_014.mort_

- Hol;y fuck! nice price! shiiit. Saw this pic come up in my instagram feed and I thought 'you bastard! two Machinedrums!' :Pmicrokorg
- wow, nice price.futurefood
- It’s not without its flaws. 2 LED are dead and one trigger button needs replacing. But sequenced from the digitakt, it’s totally fine.autoflavour
- Still.. 500..autoflavour
- Filled the hole left by the octatrack I soldautoflavour
- you son of a gun, nice price indeeedprophetone
- Sometimes I forget if auto makes beats, or is this for his podcast or does he run a museum ;-)oey_oey
- auto works for council making videos on waste management. and occasionally for the university. everything else is just fun
distractions.autoflavour - auto has also been collecting machines since 1996, so its not like I just went and spent 40k off the batautoflavour
- ^ hahaha!oey_oey

So, Rackbrute 6u ordered.
- ONE OF US.. ONE OF USautoflavour
- give you wife your credit card.. thats my adviceautoflavour
- also, just warning you .. be prepared you will be ordering a second case sooner than you think. and then a 3rdautoflavour
- What have I done?!mort_
- Unleashed hell. Hope you got a spare 10k laying aroundautoflavour
- My other gear is looking at me nervously.mort_
- losthans_glib
- your other gear should only be nervous if they aren't pulling their weight.. or don't have any CV input/outputautoflavour
- Yeah. I'm covered pretty well for mono / poly synth duties. What I'm thinking for the rack is mainly percussive / glitch / drums and getting rid of the TR-8s.mort_
- having a clear intent on what you want to do definitely helps reign in the expenditureautoflavour

Making beats vs buying gear.
"I've bought and sold a fair amount of things over the years. Vintage synthesizers, boutique modular gear, an all tube recording console, guitar pedals, and various other outboard effects. In hindsight I believe most of those purchases were driven more by the insidious affliction of capitalism than any real need. At prosperous times I've spent untold amounts of my hard earned cash on gear with the promise of new inspiration and better sounding results, and convinced myself (at least initially) that whatever new shiny toy I had just purchased provided both those things, only to realize a mere 6 months later that it was entirely superfluous, added virtually nothing to my creative process, and I would have been entirely better off putting that money into rent and food."
- I feel the same. It's taken me a good few rounds of buying and selling. Now I have Live, Push2, Arturia and Komplete Suites and a Faderfox controller. That's itmicrokorg
- I've been around for a bit, so I bought and sold too, but nothing like my friends. Now I have a Roland System8 that has 4 boards in it, only use one really...canoe
- the main synth, a 303, and Live is all I need, everything else is a distraction... I wouldn't mind having a 909 and stuff like an echoplex, but it's not requredcanoe
- look, at the end of the day you can make music on an iPad if you want.. or you can buy endless toys and sell it 6 months laterautoflavour
- somethings stay, somethings go.. some of my best tracks were made entirely in the box, some of my favourite times making music I didn't use a computer at allautoflavour
- some people spend money on cars, collectable baseball cards, drugs, sneakers.. everyone mostly have something they spend their money on.autoflavour
- that said, thinking buying hardware is going let you make better music is a farce. its just a different way to get to the same result.autoflavour
- there is always going to be a shiny new thing, some new gadget or module.. best advice is try and wait and get it second hand, at least you dont loose its valueautoflavour
- I think what you are referring to here tho is GAS.. the acquisition of hardware in lieu of actually making music. endless cycle of learning new gear etcautoflavour
- No harm enjoying the journey. It doesn't have to be all about the destination.mort_
- There is never a destination.. except down down down.. boogie on downautoflavour
- i stick with reason, spend money on a bike insteadhans_glib
- hey, no shame in reason.. I used Reason for such a long time even with a studio full of hardware.. then Ableton happened.autoflavour
- One thing ive found helps a LOT is not frequenting gear forums.microkorg
- I found NOT being on facebook groups specifically aimed at people selling second hand equipment helps.. maybe I should take my own advice LOLautoflavour

Has anyone ever read?
- I forgot I have the book. I've only picked it up a couple of times and scanned it. Thanks for the reminder.mort_
- lol.. same.. I have it, never read it properly.. every time I sit down to, I start and then instantly open abledroid and voila, no more readingautoflavour
- So I guess it worked then :)mort_
- 1 or 2 pages at a time.. I have so little time for music production, and given a lot of the time I do have is spent on studio maintenance .. reading about itautoflavour
- just falls a distant 5th in the lineautoflavour
- I have a feeling it would just sit there, plus, music production changescanoe
- Check the free sample chapters. It’s more about the creative process than current production techniques, so kind of timeless in that way.mort_

ugh.. just noticed the Mutable Instruments Beads I ordered from Montreal is being shipped Surface mail..
I will be lucky to receive it before Christmas..fuck my blurry eyed late night stoner shopping.. there was a slightly more expensive option for air mail..
but I didn't read the fine print..- i hope it's not coming via evergreenhans_glib
- knowing my luck, its the boat behind itautoflavour

- Sweet!mort_
- what's the thumb ring for?shapesalad
- What's that top left - a sequencer?mort_
- Ah - Intellijel Steppy, found it.mort_
- thumb ring I have been wearing for 20 years.. my wife and I got one each just after we got together.. later we got married and have actual ringsautoflavour
- but I still wear mine.. so late 90's I know.autoflavour
- yeah, steppy.. gate sequencer. not really supposed to be on this, meant for the 7U case I have coming.. when it arrives. but for now it fills the holeautoflavour
- the OCHD tho, if you are into modular. fucking awesome for chaos.. 8 stepped detuned triangle LFO's which can be controlled in unison.. super funautoflavour
- Been playing with the OCHD on VCV Rack. It's great! Their wavefolding module "athrú" is pretty dope too. https://www.instruom…mort_

Wanted to post this here since the passing of Malcolm Cecil earlier this week. One of the most funkiest players with a synth who helped create one of the largest modular systems.
this is a great, small, audio documentary on him and his partner talking about his time producing those 4 Stevie Wonder albums.
- scarabin0
Imbecile joked about me doing this. I guess this dude did it

Just discovered there's a whole industry around making clones of open source modules, often better looking and with less hp.
e.g. this 8hp version of Mutable Instruments Plaits.
https://momomodular.com/products…
I wonder is the resale value of clones an issue.
- vcv rack has all these as well. for freesection_014
- Ha! That's actually where I discovered the clones. VCV Rack is amazing.mort_
- yeah, love MI's whole attitude, their DSP is on the microfreak, prologue, check out http://www.axoloti.c… - you can build your own modular modules that runkingsteven
- multiple virtual mutable modules (and a ton of other stuff) on a microcontrollerkingsteven
- i haven't gone down that route, but its pitched like having nord modular within a eurorack modulekingsteven
- Very coolmort_
- I have been seeing a few clones come up second hand , they seem to be pretty much same value as the originalsautoflavour
- Less HP isn’t always a good thing. Those tiny knobs are good for setting cv input amount, not so good for tactile control of a filter for exampleautoflavour
- Especially when you have sausage fingers like meautoflavour
- Does look sexy in black tho.autoflavour
- I ordered the regular MI Plaits. I figured if I start getting fussy about aesthetics, it will end up costing me more.mort_
- love plaits.autoflavour
- Plaits and Pamelas's New Workout will be my first 2 modules - just awaiting delivery. I mounted the Moog DFAM in the case for the time being until it fills up.mort_

remix i made for a DJ Vadim track. dancey lo-fi vibes, i tried out a variety of styles for this.

Me just after the neighbors bang on the walls at 12:45am and yell over to keep the music down the kids are sleeping...
- Sounds better than most modular jams on youtube ;)microkorg
- meh, the new cow used to do this back in the day with a couple of fuzz boxes, an ferguson radio, a cheap guitar and an sh-09.hans_glib
- only difference is we didn't take ourselves so seriously as to film ithans_glib
- Haha. still not sure what a 'hideous' sound is. I don't think they found it here.Ianbolton

"When you think of artists who can really “talk tech”, we’d guarantee Danny Wolfers’ name would be up there. As Legowelt, he’s widely reputed for his extensive mastery of all things hardware; he’s definitely no stranger to a synthesizer."
