playing live tomorrow night for the first time since Covid.. super keen, have a bunch of new tracks and am even bringing a little bit of modular for some chaos.
there will be a live stream link somewhere.. but it will no doubt be at like 3am your time.. where ever that is
but if your in Sydney, $8 on the door at Goodspace in the rocks.

Soundtoys spring sale. I picked up ST5 in a previous sale. Has some of my favourite effects plugins.

Would an M1 mac be better for running Logic? Or does it even matter
- It *absolutely* would. It's a no-contest difference, even with top of the line Intel iMacs.e-wo
- Still little 3rd party support for plugins from the usuals, will need uad and waves native before switching.kingsteven
- there's not much in it atm, my hack still faster than the current M1s for Logic, but that's kinda a daft comparison. i'd say when comparisons of sessionskingsteven
- using 3rd party AUs (and not 50 instances of alchemy) come out it'll be closer. i seldom get dropouts on my hack running 200 track sessions/ thousands of plugskingsteven
- Strictly logic? Yes, totally. I don't know where the plugin game is though. Seems like companies have been pretty quick to compile for the M1's though.section_014
- Hot tips cool guys. Thaxnb
- Smaller Devs have been pretty quick and a bunch work in compatibility mode (but slower) Apple recommends only using 4 cores on the current M1s for Logic tookingsteven
- I upgraded from a 2017 iMac and loving the Mini for Logic. I have to run in Rosetta mode because of some Spitfire plugin issues, but it's been fine.mg33

Anyone tried Smooth Operator? I just got it last night after considering buying Oeksound Soothe to correct some nasty resonances from a guitarist that thinks he's in Sigor Ros. This is just out and seems to do most of what i need at $39 - already finding a ton of uses in the mix... Somewhere inbetween EQ, Compression and Spectral Restoration, surprisingly intuitive UI. About as close to a "sound fucking great" button that i've ever heard.
- Been looking for a kind of surgical filter for post-recording tweaks. Fabfilter Pro Q looks good. This might do the same job and more for less money.mort_
- Also, maybe the Ableton EQ 8 is just fine and I want the shiny new thing.mort_
- pro-eq is fantastic but i find when you get surgical (ie expanding or compressing tight bands for resonance control) any eq will get a bit mushykingsteven
- I replaced an instance of pro-eq on said guitar part... before/ after: https://imgur.com/a/…
SO surprises all the resonances in the reverb tails withoutkingsteven - sucking near 8dB from the fundamentalkingsteven
- *suppresses, *pro-q - i would suggest pro-q first to anyone that doesn't have it tbh. it is incredibly clean, great mid/side control and very quick to dial inkingsteven
- Appreciate the recommendation, cheers.mort_
- Have you played around with NI Guitar Rig? I got that last night inevitably getting lost for 4 hours just in presets. Seems intuitive though and sounds greatIanbolton
- Gotta get the new Guitar Rig, but i use v5? a ton. This song was tracked live with 2 mics and no DI so I shafted myself there :Dkingsteven
- Lol @ guitarist that thinks he's in Sigor Rosmantrakid

Considering this. It's a bit huge at 32hp and it's kind of limiting that it's a complete synth voice, but it sounds soooo good and there are plenty of modulation options.
- Almost thinking it could replace my Sub 37mort_
- sub37 is so much fun with modular.. don't do it.. you will regretautoflavour
- I have avoided the more complete oscillators.. just seems like whats the point of modular if your just buying a module with everything in it.autoflavour
- Will see. I sold a few old cameras and lenses and ordered this and a bigger case and some more modules. I may keep the Sub37.mort_
- There's something very satisfying about keeping it all in the modular though. (- said the homeless person with the big rack)mort_
- This thing is a beast. Very Moog like in lots of ways.mort_
- You can take an out from the oscillator section (either a mix or individual waveforms) into other modules or use the built in filter / lfo / adsr / vca.mort_
- Also can take an audio in from other sound sources and use it's filter / drive / vca etc. Think it's a keeper.mort_

man, I have been distracted the last 6 months or so and my pet project has stagnated..
then today on octatrack facebook group, someone posted something in the direction of what I was designing..not the same, but definitely in the same direction..
conflicted..
- What's your pet project? Is that related to the custom PCBs you were getting?mort_

- Oh no. With all their feminine synth names lately, I kinda assumed a reasonably respectful and inclusive ethos.mort_

- Jokes like that rarely just stay jokes. Work cultures like this always build towards something truly terrifying.kingsteven
