Just had 4 day BEATRETREAT .. 3 of us went to a remote property on the other side of the Blue Mountains near Lithgow.. spent most of the time just experimenting still with the modular and getting used to the new layout..
literally 2 hours before we left my new Intellijel case arrived so I had to frantically transfer all the modules.
anyway, it was fun, maybe not as productive as previous retreats..
- Beatretreat... what a cool idea!mort_
- Your modular setup looks awesome.mort_
- BEATRETREAT are fucking awesome. Find some music homies, go away for a few days, sink beers, make beatsautoflavour
- Will be a while before we can do that in Ireland but yeah, very much looking forward to any kind of jam with other humans again.mort_
- Awesome idea. Looks decent. Anything we can hear, or is it too experimental for QBNers?Ianbolton
- I really enjoy your posts and gear auto. your room is so neat. I can barely play but would love to drop some acid and press all those buttons and turn switchesoey_oey
- Jesus fook, that's so incredibly cool looking.garbage
- This is like a fantasy camp and it's awesome. Do any traditional instruments make an appearance, or all machines?stoplying
- nothing really to hear from this yet.. past incarnations its been more just Ableton so it was easier to start making things.. this was very much just noodlingautoflavour
- although there were some pockets of goodness, which no doubt will make it out eventually.autoflavour
- generally its been just laptops with the occasional synth.. I just decided this time to bring some more machines. closest traditional instrument would have beenautoflavour
- a microphone.autoflavour
- also sorry for everyone who is still under lockdown, didn't mean to flaunt Australia's Covid free status.. its basically like it never happened here right nowautoflavour
- Not at all mate. Actually, it’s great to see normality return in some pockets of the world. Shows the rest of us what’s around the corner, hopefully!mort_
- I'm just happy to see some positive music shit going on. Lockdown has destroyed live music and I've lost the plot getting wrapped up in my music/ego!Ianbolton

OH SNAP! That $500 Machinedrum just became so much more fucking amazing..
Elektron have stock of the UI board's still for the MD mk2..
$112USD including shipping..the only thing wrong with the MD is a few LED dont trigger and one of the buttons is fucked.
but now, thanks to $112USD.. its all back to new.
or it will be, once it arrives.
In total it would be $650AUD for the same machine I just spent $1500 on last year.
question is now do I flip for profit, or just be a glutton with 2 Machinedrum.

Got round to finishing another tune. Learning a bit more about mastering in Ableton which works means I'm playing more with ambient stuff. Is it worth investing in Soundcloud Pro? Anyone else on here working on anything new?
- Dooope! Really nice balance and texture throughout.e-wo
- One I'm tinkering on, almost completely from home foley: https://soundcloud.c…e-wo
- Love the sounds/samples you've got going on there. Nice work.Ianbolton
- +++++PhanLo
- ahhhh finishing tracks. I remember that. sadly no, I just start them, get bored and then move on.autoflavour
- Haha, I do that more than anything too though, so it feels like a massive achievement actually finishing something!Ianbolton
- This is very goodCalderone2000

Having the annual locked out of Logic by Arturia plugins crashing on load and Arturia Software Center still the same buggy piece of shit it was last time... can't log in, reinstall, can't update. Just deleted the whole thing and installing from scratch.
Still have hacked V Collection from 4 years ago running on my laptop with no issues. Buying software is for suckers
- had similar in Logic recently also... destroyed 2 half finished tracks.fadein11
- up and working again now, seems to be okay... nearly done on a big arturia heavy project and was choosing not to update because of exactly that fadekingsteven
- ok_not_ok0
- No CV? This thing looks like it should only take voltage. And 1 Envelope? idk bro.section_014
- oooof nice, love the old school label maker font aestheticprophetone
- Nice that it has legato, but no osc sync???futurefood

I've done something which I feel is really healthy.
Had a Instagram clearout and got rid of all the synth brands and GAS inducing gearheads. There will be no more temptation coming from social in this realm :)- You're still on this thread though, so never say never :Dmort_
- True :P I am keeping away from Elektronauts though which is a BIIIG GAS enhancer.microkorg
- you know what you need, sign up to modular facebook trading groups.. daily options to buy more modular. its fantastic for GASautoflavour
- The divkid and mylarmelodies YouTube channels aren’t helping either.mort_

Interesting new 606 based Eurorack sequencer in 1u & 3u. I don’t see a swing setting so that seems like an oversight. Lots to like though and looks like it will give Steppy a run for its money.
- those buttons are very small.section_014
- yeah nah .. having owned a TR606.. while it was fun, the pony's trick gets boring quickly.autoflavour
- How’s steppy for drums and one shot sample triggering? Need a gate sequencer soon so looking at the options.mort_
- steppy is fun, although I don't have any drum or sample modules.. I just use it for quick gate creation.
is good tho, do recommendautoflavour - I went a different sequencer route with the endorphin.es ground control. Second case in my crosshairs already. You weren’t wrong!mort_

- i remember seeing this back relatively close to when 3rd came out, i haven't heard anything utley has done since... but he's been busy gonna do a divekingsteven

Back in the studio from Friday for the best part of six weeks to finish off a 2xLP I started in 2016 with David Holmes, consumed me for 3 years and was nearly done at the end of 2019. Label is expecting it in May but aren't as bothered as me that a 5 month lead time on vinyl ATM means if there's any further delay it'll go from December 21 to March 22 release.
Been working my ass off prepping for final recording sessions and mixing - 3 days to go and i've developed an ear infection and started getting insane vertigo and nausea within 5 minutes of putting on headphones. Don't know if its stress, ear fatigue or the dodgy tooth i've been ignoring due to Covid taking a stand but fuck, 15 session files with 200+ tracks and an excel spreadsheet is not 'making beats' - when this on is done i'm a singles man.
- on the good side this month we ordered football scarves for merch and got permission to use footage from a favourite b-movie in a promo.... now just the musickingsteven
- Sorry to hear it man. The ear infection will definitley be related to the vertigo and nausea. Hope you're on the mend soon.Ianbolton
- i'm not sure if it's just the pressure on my head from the cans, tried open backs and it's no better. gonna rest up today and hope it clears upkingsteven
- I had an ear infection when I was younger and it seriously fucked my inner ear up. I now have prosthetic anvil, stirrup and hammer. Keep an eye on it manIanbolton
- kingsteven5
I'm not sure I've ever posted music in this thread, here's some recent tracks that have beats!
- Lovely!mort_
- cheers for posting man!PhanLo
- Quite nice! +1futurefood
- interesteing video for that late night tales - do you think any of its real? good use of CGwoowahesque
- Not sure who they use for those, I've seen similar vids on other LNT comps so it could be someone in house.kingsteven
- Is Documenta you kingsteven? I love this stuff. I'm trying to do more guitar stuff recently. Hope the ear's fixing up okay manIanbolton
- yeah man, well it's a 7 piece band and i co-write with joe (male singer) and arrange/ produce it all. it's a nice mix of studio and live performance...kingsteven
- the last track here is from an EP that was all improvised (and pretty badly recorded) then I layered vocals and a load of cello and keys on topkingsteven
- PhanLo2
- Looking forward to watching this.
Delia Derbyshire in da house.mort_ - Looks good! There was a band with a similar name years backfuturefood
- Looking forward to watching this.
- autoflavour5
- although, 62hp of that usually is in a Intellijel Pallette. so maybe not as bad as anticipatedautoflavour
- duct tape a polyend tracker into bottom rightprophetone
- a great photoutopian
- Not a photo( just from modular gridautoflavour
- All currently at disposal.. all $13k of itautoflavour
- Wow! Do you use the Quad VCAs mostly as sub-mixes into your audio interface? Trying to figure out my in-rack mixer requirements atm.mort_
- 'Where The Fun Is' thread :)mort_
- Quad VCA's as sub mixes for sure, but not always. Usually only 2 channels in my case. Doepfer a-138 series is great for mixers(and cheap).section_014
- Thanks section_014. Yeah, been looking at the Doepfer a-138s and the Befaco STMix since I have some stereo modules.mort_
- Your gear always blows my mind.garbage
- That's what she said.mort_
- I use my quad VCA for manipulating the signal.. I also have a a138 as a simple mixer, but I'm not really doing anything super complicated with it.autoflavour
- but the Quad VCA are definitely for sculpting the sound..autoflavour

First new music out there in a while, this is one of my tunes from my band's new record... had a couple of overdubs to do all through lockdown and just got them done last week/ finished the mix on Friday. Bonus video commissioned by a mental health arts charity with footage from some classic local b-movies they somehow got permission to use!
- i like that a lot. i'd have brought in the final guitar much earlier... just feel the first half needs soemthing more happening...hans_glib
- agree, there will be a radio edit...a label wanted it for a 12" so i extended it Cure style before we tracked but 24w lead time on vinyl fucked that enterprisekingsteven
- It's really nice, vocals are ace. Video also great.fadein11
- God is this ever dope. Nicely done!mantrakid
- I like this a lot. I am reminded of Cavern of Antimatter. Ace vid too!MrT
- Heh! I played before CoM at green man and Tim Gane bummed a fag off me while watching Michael Rother from the wings and I nearly exploded I am such a fankingsteven
- CoAM! it was the first time Tim had seen Rother live which was nuts as Stereolab totally introduced me to NEU 30 years previously :)kingsteven
- Love this! The vocals are indeed ace. Great drummer too.mort_
- Ye the drums, bass and most of the guitars are one take. I had a camera on James (drummer) was threatening to make it the video...kingsteven
- He's in a full Hummel tracksuit tho, not quite the same vibe hakingsteven
- Wow. This is f'ing cool. It sounds like something that might have been a Primal Scream Exterminator B-Side...mg33
- ... I'm sure that comparison is weird... but that groove at the beginning reminded me of them quickly. Such a great tune!mg33
- heh, cheers mg - vanishing point-> XTRMNTR their best work IMO. random trivia: the track i posted below "love as a ghost" was recorded on the Primal's unusedkingsteven
- studio time for More Light and originally mixed (the LNT version is kind of a remix) at the same time as that (admittedly pretty damn good) record.kingsteven
