- Microwave reboot! It's beautiful.prophetone
- I've lusted over the og Microwave XT for decades... https://www.youtube.…prophetone
- YES! Wavetables + analog filters is such a great combo. I've been wanting something for playing chords in this format.section_014
- $2200 though (per their website). Idk. Gotta here some proper demos. Also, can companies make this shit rackable! FFS!section_014

- Good thing my cases are full..autoflavour
- That just means you need more cases. :Pmort_
- I love Plaits for this kind of thing. Have 2 of them. But ZAPS takes it to another level. And analog oscillators too.mort_
- Not out until 2022 unfortunately.mort_
- Idk, this is kinda anti-modular.section_014
- @section_014 how so?mort_
- It's just so much shit packed into a single module. two osc, two eg's, modulation, etc. And, the CV inputs are assignable, so now I gotta think about it.section_014
- Things are a lot more intutive (for me), when modules do a single thing. Even when that single thing has lots of functionality and patch points.section_014
- Yeah I hear you! Have avoided modules like Ornament & Crime for those very reasons. For me, I think this one would be worth it.mort_

I'm putting together a DAWless setup for fun and musical exploration, and I have around 2k to spend on synths.
My initial plan was to cover my wants (70s-80s groove and pop + radiohead-ish exploration + goosebump inducing deepness and softness) with these :
Behringer Odyssey (or Moog Mother 32)
Minilogue xd (or Prologue)
Reface dx or MODX6 or OpsixBut I'm now wondering if for the same price going for a single possibly greater piece isn't a better idea, if only to fully lose myself into a single instrument.
Prophet 6 / Jupiter-X / Super 6Input and recommendations much appreciated !
- I would just say, if you do go the multi synth route, only buy one at a time and learn it before you buy the next one.mort_
- ^ this - and buy second hand, most new synths drop in resale value quickly and remain at around half their original RRPkingsteven
- i'd get a synth with an onboard sequencer that you can play over and a drum box. and an reverb/echo unit as well. but then i like layered textureshans_glib
- Thanks guys. Right, these all have sequencers and I got a drum box. Will check 2nd hand for the big ones. Hard to contain myself but agree with 1 by 1 if multi!spl33nidoru
- On the prophet tip, go for the 16 voice rev 2. I spent so much time comparing the P6, P5/10, and the Rev 2 (and my P08). They all sound the same.section_014
- ^ good to know, thanks manspl33nidoru
- The super 6 is fucking amazing.autoflavour

My son is 10 and is learning the drums. He's into it but I struggle to get him to practice without me reminding him, largely as his passion belongs to his computer.
I think the missing link is some music making software for making beats and loading samples that has a simple enough interface to get him going. We are mac based, and he has a sweet studio setup (for a 10 year old).
I would love a little advice if anyone could help with some recommendations.
- Say set up the camera so I can watch it later or listen to it when I drive. Show him interest and I think he will deliver!AQUTE
- Melodics App?oey_oey
- Thanks I'll check it out.slappy
- Playing drums is a tactical thing. Making music on a computer definitely isn't, most of the time you're mouse-ing around.microkorg
- Maybe getting him a Ableton Push2, or Maschine or Akai MPC Studio so he can load in drum samples and bash out beats with his fingers.microkorg
- Get him watching fingerdrumming on MPCs on Youtube. See Raybandanas post on 1st page of this thread.microkorg
- https://youtu.be/mTk…microkorg
- Get him hooked on sampling and you're never going to have to worry about him smoking or doin drugs when he's older as all his pocket money will go on vinyl ;)microkorg
- “ And get their friends to come in and they'll suck, too. And then they'll f******* start playing and they'll have the best time they've ever had in their livesnb
- ... and they’ll become nirvana.” Advice from Dave Grohlnb
- Son, drummers are pussy magnets. Now show me some paradiddles.mort_
- Thanks, there is heaps to research in there. I'm really looking forward to learning with him.slappy
- I know this is low hanging fruit but if you want easy quick wins, GarageBand. My 11 year old loves it.. granted he is just arranging loops but he is interestedautoflavour
- Yeah my 12 year old makes tunes in garage band. Seems very immediate and intuitive.mort_

I wanted to have more to share, and I wanted it all to be better, but fuck it. Life is too short.
Please check out my "band," Hot Dog Vomit.
I've been playing music off and on for over 25 years. I've never gotten "good," and I never will be. But I've learned that I have everything I need to create art that makes me happy.
Speaking of art, the logo is courtesy of dbloc of Horrible Logos. I've been sitting on it for nearly 5 years now.
These songs are way different from what is typically shared in this thread, but all of you have been an inspiration in my journey to get here.
This is my first attempt at writing and recording my own songs. I still have a lot to learn and a lot of ideas I want to incorporate.
Anyway, I hope you hate it. Feedback is welcome.
- wow...I have no words...you are between genius and junk without being regular or normal or whatever...the fuck?oey_oey
- ^ this was a compliment but i feel weird...oey_oey
- Dude! That feels like a really big compliment to me. For real. Thanks for listening!nocomply
- I applaud anyone who create things. Congratulations man! i like your songs. Keep going!Bennn
- I would like to hear the heavy metal version of em. Or even the punk version, quick energic version. Form a band!Bennn
- Yes! Keep it going!aliastime

How do you tackle arrangements? I always find it the painful ball-ache of the process.
It's the part of the process that feels like work (for me at least).
I've been doing this shit for nearly 30 years and still hate this essential part, that's why I enjoyed collaborating over the past few years, some people love it.
I never quite get it like the live jam.- comments about Ableton doing it for you will be ignored, I'm on Logic and I'd rather it didn't do it however painful the process is.fadein11
- Sorry to say it but thats where Live shines. Get something like a launchpad/push to launch scenes, jam for ages and record it..microkorg
- ..then listen back, earmark the bits you like and cut them out and rearrange.
This was a gamechanger for me back when I started using live.microkorg - Means your final compositions are made out of all the best bits from your jam(s).microkorg
- yeah everyone says Ableton is best at this but I just don't want to learn a new DAW... I've used Logic before it was even called Logic.fadein11
- But yes, I prob should finally move for this reason alone, thanks. Have 3 tracks I'm really pleased with ready to be arranged but keep putting it off afterfadein11
- a failed attempt. I'm just being lazy in reality I think.fadein11
- a push/launchpad for scenes and a multi-knob controller for control over many parameters within a song and you're jammin and remixing on the flymicrokorg
- I haven't released anything for over a year and need to get these finished, the pandemic didn't make me productive at all...fadein11
- I need to get these done and was venting when half pissed but thanks, I do need to look at Ableton, I'm so stuck in my ways.fadein11
- Just spotted this post. I love the arrangement part of it all. Trying to replicate something that sounds like you're jamming is THE challengeIanbolton

I'm looking for a good low price/free plugin for mastering tracks... any advice?
- What is mastering? Why do you do it?grafician
- 90% of paying a mastering engineer is because they haven't heard the song 1000 times already, and listen objectively. plugins are just snake oilautoflavour

something different from what I normally make. chilled out ambient jazz type of thing.
