    Need some advice:

My almost two year when playing with my mixer and turntables tends to focus more in the midi pads from the mixer...thing is I don't have Serato at the moment connected so it's practically useless for her to hit those pads.

So I'm looking for a drum pad that can work without a computer. She hits the pads and plays the sounds. That's it.

She has a keyboard but there she also likes to hit the drum buttons more than anything. I think she likes the lights of the pads and the instant response.

    Any suggestions?

    • WTF?! "my almost two year old daughter..."oey_oey
    • There are some apps you can consider downloading for the iPad which you can then plug into a 4ch mixer.PioneerDJ303
    • Assuming you don’t want something that requires a PC to work and budget suitable for a 2 yr old, the Teenage Engineering PO-12 might work?mort_
    • Doh! you explicitly said without computer. Well the PO-12 is a good option. The pads are a bit small though.mort_
    • Another option might be a used Akai MPC for ~ €200mort_
    • Get her an Octopad, or the Alesis version SamplePad. Loads of fun!futurefood
    • If you're willing to give up an old iPad or iPhone this works great (my kids loved it and easy to use):

Upgrading my monitors to the Dynaudio BM5 MKIIIs.

Have been using Behringer Truths up till now so hoping for more clarity in the bottom end with the Dynaudios.

Will probably keep the Behringers for vinyl mixing sessions since they are nice and loud.

Anyone have experience with the Dynaudios?

    • How are you finding the new monitors? Just been looking into them and they look decentIanbolton
    • Awaiting delivery :)mort_
    • Dynaudio are going blow your truths out of the water. Truths are anything but. Had a pair for years..autoflavour
    • Mixing on proper monitors are nice and day.. even my Yamaha hs80 are still not amazing, but at least kind of in the ball parkautoflavour
    • Got my wife some of the smaller genelec for her new office, they are super nice.autoflavour
    • Almost pulled the trigger on the Yamaha's when a friend recommended spending a bit more on the Dynaudios. Will see how they fare.mort_
    • Warming the Dynaudios up. It’s like night and day. The sound is so much fuller and less harsh in comparison.mort_
    • Plenty of bass despite the slightly smaller woofers.mort_

Anybody have any reccos for an uncomplicated MIDI sequencer app for IOS? I want something simple to send sequences to my little phatty in my small DAWless setup I've got going. No need for a ton of features, just looking for something easy to use and fun.

Anyone can recommend an alternative to Ableton Live or Lite for iOS? I don't mean any remote controller for Ableton or any other software.

    • I want to use my Vestax Pad-One in Live Sessions and having an iPad make sit easier as I don't have a Turntable or Mixer with input for external MIDI devicesoey_oey
    • could I use LK or maybe Cubasis (a bit complex no?)oey_oey
    • LK is also Remote Tool...is there anything besides Garage Band?oey_oey

Lotsa Black Friday plugin deals happening but the one I’ve been waiting for due to it’s premium, stratospheric almost never on sale pricing are the ones at GoodHertz... 30% off for next 7 days.

Also the Cherry Audio Juno-106 plugin is like $25 right now.

    • as an owner of both a Juno 6 and Juno 106 I can safely say hardware. If only the $600 Juno 6 I just saw listed for $4000..
      still going strong

    • that said, they are basically identical .. so soft synths for the winautoflavour
    • Picked up the SoundForce DCO and VCF / VCA for the modular. They are analog modules based on the Juno 106 and sound amazing.mort_
    • Polyphony would be very expensive via that route though!mort_

VCV Rack 2 is out now and as a DAW Plugin (included in Pro version for $99)

Been looking forward to this as a way to expand the modular virtually, within Ableton, for functions that don't necessarily require physical knobs and controls to be useful.

    https://vcvrack.com/Rack

    • I only demo'd it briefly a few years ago, but the price seems totally worth it. I have reaktor, but I like this form factor a lot more.section_014
    • It's fiddly as fuck with a mouse but I'm thinking for set and forget functions, it could help save money on physical modules. Some great brands in there too.mort_
    • One of the things I demo'd was the Mutable Inst. Elements. The sound was spot on. The one place this, and every other plugin still fails to match up is filters.section_014
    • That's interesting about filters, thx.mort_
    • Can make a little FX skiff in VCV then get some MIDILar modules to control it.

Recently changed my monitoring setup from two 8" monitors to a pair of 5" and a sub.

I've been using a pair of Samson Rubicon's since 2007. They sound fine, and get plenty loud. But, I had two issues with them. First, I have no idea what's really going on sub 50hz. Possibly even a bit higher than that.

I have a friend who has his retired sound system in his basement, that we'll DJ on every once in a while. I'm always surprised by the sub bass (not in a good way) when testing tracks. Second, those monitors just overcook the highs/mid-highs. Even with the ability to reduce the highs by -2 db, they're too harsh. So, I ended up mixing those frequencies lower than they should have been.

So, after lots of research, I ended up with a pair of Adam A5V's, and a KRK 10s subwoofer. I was a little hesitant on getting another set with ribbon tweeters, but these are clearly much more accurate than the Rubicons. And, almost unbelievably, the Adam's actually have good bass for being so small.

I'm still getting used to them, but so far I'm pretty happy. The sub is already making a huge difference. And, contrary to what I read online about the difficulty setting up a sub, it's been a breeze. In fact, parts of my room that had bass build issues are much better WITH the sub.

    • Nice. I recently switched from 9" Behringers to 7" Dynaudios and now considering a sub. Will have to wait until I save up or sell something.mort_
    • Not particularly lacking in bass without a sub but I want my bones to shatter. :)mort_
    • got a sub, made the whole room shake and it was promptly returned. subs are only good if your setup can handle it.autoflavour

picked up a cheap Model Cycles second hand.
I guess my logic is if it doesn't fit, either the kids can have it as a chew toy or I can just flip it.

Getting really frustrated with finding an App to connect my old Vestax Pad-One to my iPad.

I just want to be able to trigger samples with it (also responding @canoe).
I use Ableton in my MBP and there I assigned for each pad in the Vestax samples and sounds that I recorded and then I can trigger them hitting the pads...basic.

    Should be simple.

Initially I was looking for free software because it's just for a couple of live streams and nothing special.

But now I'm looking at payable Apps but the ones I would like to try don't offer trial mode...so how do i know which one will work?

There's two other that have LE versions but the "magic" button that allows me to use my Vestax is grayed out...only in the opaid version is it available.

I've tried so many f*cking Apps:
LK (I thought this would work), Remixlive, Noise (yes I tried that one too), Korg Gadget LE, Beat Maker (not BeatMaker), several more and I even installed Cubase LE!!!

I tried a couple of hours some weeks ago and today after three hours watching tutorials and trying Apps I'm thinking it can't be so difficult...

    What am I missing/not seeing?

    Anyone can recommend anything?

I'm willing to pay for BeatMaker 3 but it has to work the damn thing!

    • Seems that GarageBand should actually be able to do thisoey_oey
    • let me ask aroundcanoe
    • My son has the pads on a little Akai midi controller working with GarageBand on iPad. Should work.mort_
    • ah! I need a tutorial from your son! well the pads work in GarageBand but I'm looking for tutorials now on how to trigger clips individually.oey_oey
    • and I purchased ModStep...that should work also.oey_oey
    • So far I found out that with Gadget, Nano and BeatMaker I would able to achieve what I want.oey_oey
    • What I got: Why wouldn’t person connect the usb device to MBP and trigger there? And why wouldn’t they trigger the iPad from the IPDA?canoe
    • I understand the question because I know I could use Sidecar mode and Ableton Link. But I can't, my MBP is prior to 2016. And I don't want to use the computer.oey_oey
    • the last sentence I didn't really understand.oey_oey
    • my buddy is a little flippant, apparently didn't help, but I tried. still waiting on other buddy to reply, if he does, I will post for you.canoe
    • thanks!
In the meantime, I've learned how to map my Vestax on ModStep and how to import the samples. Just have to invest some hours...
      oey_oey
    • Would just using the virtual pads in an iPad app be simpler, or do you need the physical pads?mort_
    • E.g. https://apps.apple.c…mort_
    • ^ I know, in fact it would be simpler. but I really want to explore the possibilities and I prefer to use the physical pads.oey_oey
    • Yeah I hear ya. More fun than tapping a screen.mort_
    • what a joke, didn't want to pay 25€ to have BeatMaker 3 and paid 10€ to have ModStep. If I try to import a clip, track, whatever it just crashes.oey_oey
    • I had read about this but it was 1 or people in 20 swearing for the app. now it's just useless...I even installed imazing on my MBP...why do I even need thisoey_oey
    • I’ve requested refunds for shitty apps before and they grant them. https://support.appl…mort_
    • ah! I did that before I wrote my last comment.oey_oey
    • using Roland Zenbeats and having success so far to import samples and to trigger them with my Vestax.oey_oey
    • this is the third app that I'm watching tutorials today. it was simple. just added a drum to a song. and the drum has 8 pads.oey_oey
    • I assigned a sample to each pad and I just hit the pads. I don't even need to make a song/track to use it. almost perfect. still going to check other apps.oey_oey
    • and it's a free app. I need a Roland account to save but I guess if that's the price I'm okay with it I guess.oey_oey
    • I'm still open to suggestions though.oey_oey

Punches for, "If had this [press button midi music maker] 10 years ago I'd be a millionaire."

Da fuq? Why didn't you merely take piano lessons for a year or two?
