I have Traktor on my windows PC (since laptop died). I use a mix of regular vinyl and Traktor scratch vinyls via a Traktor Z2 mixer. Great setup.
But... the PC and monitor are the other side of the studio so it means running back and forth between monitor and decks when playing digital files.
I’m wondering if I could mirror the PC monitor on an iPad over wireless and have the iPad next to the decks to solve this? Another option is to get CDJs / XDJs but that’s outside my budget for now.
- if you're not worried about a bit of latency you could use remote desktop https://apps.apple.c…kingsteven
- https://docs.microso…kingsteven
- Thanks! Latency would be fine since it’s just for browsing tracks. Will give that a try.mort_

- Nice, I have the SSL 2+ as my portable kit..autoflavour
- Behringer stuff using just goes bang and then there is smoke..autoflavour
- Most of The Behringer stuff I’ve owned has been surprisingly good. They’re kinda copycat assholes, though.jagara

QBN making beats crew. I have a problem, that seems simple, but is kinda leaving me without many options.
The basic issue is: My Focusrite Pro40 audio interface does not provide enough power to push my newly acquired Adam T5V studio monitors. There's a +2 setting, and you can crank them past unity, but these tweeters hiss like crazy when you boost them built in amps. So, I want to keep everything at 0, and boost the signal going into them.
Currently, I have an old Aalto (I never heard of it before getting it) 4 channel mixer (which has balanced inputs) amplifying the output of my audio interface. Problem is: this thing is old, beat up (one output channel is failing), and noisy.
My first idea was buy something from Allen & Heath or Soundcraft in a small form factor. Well, the small ZED mixer is a 6 channel, and complete overkill for amping a signal 20db at maximum. I don't need anything but the master volume.
So, the internet directed to audiophile amp world. Someone suggested a Schiit Magnius, which is a headphone amp with balanced stereo in's and outs. It looked perfect! But, the outputs are preamp only (not using the internal amp), and the volume basically acts as an attenuator.
So, I'm back at square one. Is there really nothing out there that's basically a volume knob (with amplification) for balanced signals going into powered monitors? I saw some monitor controllers that have input gain, but I don't want Behringer (even though I love my model D), and I don't have 3 sets of monitors. So spending $500 on something for that just to boost a signal seems dumb.
Any ideas?
- there should be more than enough from the interface... in saffire mix control settings do you have active monitor pad enabled?kingsteven
- I have a Pro 24 and Scarlett 18i20 and Adam A7x and can drive them to distort quite easily (and yup you hear it with those tweeters)kingsteven
- I do not have active pad enabled, and it's not nearly enough. I mix tracks down at roughly -6db, and my interface is set at 8 for reasonable listening.section_014
- I can put the pro40 to 10 (full volume), and while it's certainly louder, I've had them much louder (with the mixer) without distorting.section_014
- damn, was hoping that would be an easy one. it's a bit too late for me to test i'm assuming its clipping on the amp but could be the interface outputkingsteven
- I keep the Adams on 0dB and rarely above center on the interface and just a rotary TRS jack speaker switcher as i'm also paranoid about such things...kingsteven
- Radial J4 line driver could be an option... provides +4dB on TRS jacks. Maybe do a side by side with another interface first to see if it's something fuckykingsteven
- just noticed the T5V has a -10/ +4dB switch for the operating level, it should be +4dB if connected to the Saffire. The +2dB switches are high and low shelves.kingsteven
- Yep, it's on +4db. Man, I've been so far down this rabbit hole, there's not way it's not the interface. I do want to measure the output somehow.section_014
- Maybe this will work? You can find them on eBay for $50 sometimes https://www.altomusi…keewee
- I ended up ordering a small mackie vlz mixer. I was going to get the A&H, but it was too big to sit on my desk.section_014

yet to test, but have been following development of this syncussion plugin for mac (m1 ready) that was released today...
- Oh man.... I’m just waiting to get my greasy mitts on either a proper kit or that behringer one currently in dev... but def gonna snag the plugin!prophetone
- bleeding heck - the prices of the original and the psyco x clone!hans_glib
- i remember when they were going for 150 and i thought it was a rip off :D i have a synth drum modded for external trigger, i see they're going for 500 quid nowkingsteven
- bought the plugin, it's pretty cool, def worth it for quirky percussion needs, nice to support an indie dev tooprophetone
- nice, my m1 is arriving this week apparently :-s so holding off to stave off the inevitable disappointment with incompatibilitieskingsteven

- yeeah, posted a few pages back. incredible wee boxkingsteven
- Yup it’s pretty cool and looking into building a diy version, headless setup on a teensy 4.1... end goal would be a custom pcb, check out the M8 discordprophetone
- these are almost impossible to get hands on right now and/or are $1k... imo you’re better off grabbing a sweet polyend trackerprophetone
- Another future diy project in works apparently https://twitter.com/…prophetone
- The song the guy makes on this is incredible. No danger I'd be able to make anything like that on this lol.microkorg
- First time I've watched someone compose on one of these. So similar to LSDJ (even the shortcuts). Think I might dust off the gameboykingsteven
- Makes me wonder what trackers are out there for the emulator handhelds you can pick up for 100 noopkingsteven
- Think the guy in the video says that its based on LSDJ. So dont know if it means influenced by or its built upon the Open Source version of the softwaremicrokorg
- yeah, i knew it was the influence. it's just amazing that there's not much to be improved UI/UX wise from a 24 y/o cart for a 37 y/o consolekingsteven
- LSDJ is hard to get in to but very addictive. I'm can't think if there was a tracker before that used so few controls but they really nailed it.kingsteven

The M8 caught my eye cos I'm after a little sofa noodler.
I completely miss the OP-1 for this purpose, just pick it up and play!A friend whos a bit of a hiphop head but never made music got Koala app and got me to download it too. It's decent and I got myself an MPD218 so its then got pads but coming from a DAW background I'm finding the restrictions annoying.
So been looking at Akai MPC Live 2. Beatmaking daw in a box that can be picked up and played anywhere like the op1 (a bit bigger lol) and is a pretty complete DAW without needing to plug anything else in cos of battery and built in speaker.
Or thinking a Model Cycles/Samples just for some noodling fun powered by usb battery - cos really I dont have time to be making music or learning new OS's! ;)
Havent had GAS for over a year but kinda itching at the moment.

Inspired to look out my LSDJ cart there, unfortunately my modded GBC has been in the attic for well over a decade with corroded batteries and seems to be totally buggered. Luckily my OG game boy still just about working and was able to get it up and running to find a song I probably wrote 20 years ago still on the cart :D
- I’ve been wanting to make a game boy game. This would make a cool soundtrackscarabin
- nice! i think there is a convoluted way to get from lsdj to a .gbs mod. let me know how it goes sure. could definitely write something in gbs format for youkingsteven
- man Nanoloop.. such a headache. Had one for a couple of years, I found it totally unaccessible .. mind you that was when they were new like 20 years agoautoflavour
- and when the documentation was non existentautoflavour
- saved up from my first summer job to get that nanoloop, insane learning curve but ended up doing some live shows with it synced to a casio rz1 hahkingsteven

I haven't tried this yet but seems like a really interesting project, essentially an emulator for the Motorola DSP56300 (the chip used in the Access Virus A, B, C, TI / Clavia Nord Lead 3 / Waldorf Q, Microwave II / Novation Supernova, Nova and many others)
Currently the UI is for Access Virus but will work with other ROMs in the future. You will need to download the firmware ROM from elsewhere (a quick goole seems to bring them up). Seems like a near perfect Virus B/ C emulation and free!
- Yeah, this looks sick. I have so many plugins synths though.section_014

move.ment is a freeware monophonic sample-based virtual synthesizer featuring a single VCO, a resonant low-pass filter, two ADSR envelopes, and a built-in reverb effect. Standout feature is the sampler section offering eight nature recordings (Wind, Birds, Beach, Geiser, Forest, Water, Thunder, Night) that you can mix with the VCO signal.

- MPC2kXL for £1100 with faults. I could get a fully refurbished one from Jazzcat himself for £800!microkorg

Erica Synths in Latvia are donating all revenue to Ukraine humanitarian aid on a number of their modules. Was actually just looking for a sequential switch!

- It's cool, retro is def way to go but personally not gassed enuf to justify full $... but have an eye out for used
https://www.youtube.…prophetone - And I've been on fence with Octatrack II, as $200 cheaper than this guy, I like the OT's fader and live abilities, max twiddle factor?prophetone
- But this unit is def more user friendly and visual so a bit of a toss up for meprophetone
- Ricky gives it a thumbs up, he's posted some great vids using it in different waysprophetone
- I see more MPC Live 1 for 400USD cheaper used. Is the Live 2 way better? why such price difference?futurefood
- that retro version, tho. damn!futurefood
- @ff someone posted this a while back, mpc one better in some aspects if you don't need the additional features https://www.youtube.…kingsteven
- and the mpc one retro looks even better imo. although admittedly screen placement would seem to be more ergonomic on the iikingsteven
- Folk say screen better above the pads on the one. YEs the One has more function buttons less menu diving.microkorg
- The 2 can have a SSD inserted, wifi, speakers, more audio outs. Thats about it. intitally when it was launched i questioned speakers...microkorg
- ...but actually thats what i loved about the op-1 was you could pick it up and just play it. no cables, just fun, kinda think the 2 would be like that.microkorg
- Just ordered a Live 2. Really love the idea of doing arrangements away from the studio. Plays nice with modular too which will be handy.mort_
