so... i have plenty of drum machines. do i need more? hell no. but i've always wanted an SP1200, or an SP12 as a close second. i'm on ebay almost every day just checking things out and for the past few months been scoping all the newly listed sp's. they go for lots of clams nowadays. one was listed a month ago for $500 (good deal) and i fussed for an hour after it listed and boom, it sold to some other chap. you snooze you lose. i'm thinking meh i'll never see one for that again soon or less than that unless all the stars align and my timing is impeccable. i do my 'newly listed, used buy it now search' in electronic instruments this morning and what is the newest listing, my friends?...
oh yes, i did.
- even tho it's listed like this, it worked recently, the battery is now dead (big clue) and lots of pics in and outprophetone
- pretty sure with a little tlc, a fresh battery and some nice chicken noodle soup, i can nurse her back to healthprophetone
- i'm more excited about scoring this than that $125 mpc1k a few weeks back. which i have now and it's 100%prophetone

That seems like a pretty good price for an OP-1.
It's something that i've wanted for a while but unfortunately lifes expenses got in the way.
If the money is burning a hole in your pocket then jump at it. They'll always hold their value well so if you don't use it you can always punt it on eBay for the same money or more.

i have lots of lust after the OP-1, but to be honest, the internal battery is a bit of a worry for me.. when i buy a synth i want it to last as long as i want to own it..
non replaceable batteries kind of kill that a bit.. teenage engineering will eventually release replacement batteries.. but that is only as long as they exist as a company.

23kon made a great statement...
"If you don't have an ipad already then what about putting the $ towards the new generation out soon"
Honestly, I don't need an OP-1 or a latest gen iPad, so I could buy a used iPad, install the Beatsurfing app and most likely be plenty pleased for a fraction of the cost.
autoflavour brought up a good point as well (which was echoed elsewhere online)...
"he internal battery is a bit of a worry for me.. "
I was totally ignorant of the internal battery issue but have read things on both sides. I realize an iPad technically has the same issue but considering the apps available to me, the iPad is more my cup o' tea.
I think the only reason the OP-1 became an option to me initially was the discounted price, but after some consideration, a lot of its features don't fit my production style.
Thanks for the input all, I'll likely end up searching out an iPad and finally get around to Beatsurfing.
Thanks again,
