udio.com is now offering paid subscriptions which allow you to access advanced features including 2 min outputs, stem downloads, audio uploads for reference.
In the free tier you can test the 2 min outputs.
Did a few earlier this evening and they are amazing! You can also now crank up the quality of the outputs too.
- kinda head over heels in love with udio at the moment. the quality and understanding of breaks, turntablism etc is outstanding!microkorg
- So for example could you use it to create a dusty old soul break that never existed before and sample that without any royalties involved?mort_
- Yes, thats what im doing :)microkorg
- Cool!mort_
- Can also get the stems from the soul tracks to isolate instruments or drums. then work with them separately.microkorg
- Nice!mort_
- i tried this and it sounded like generic shit but worse. like it just was random and not catchy or melodic at all. maybe its good for different genresephix
- The more accurate you can make your description of the track the better the results. So tell it do do drum breaks, breakdowns, solos etc based on yourmicrokorg
- knowledge of how the music you usually sample from sounds and is structured.microkorg
- I prefer human made.ephix
- If you can tell the difference now, that won’t be for long.mort_

I know TikTok is probably frowned upon here but my account is growing by the minute since uploading yesterday.
New version of the song with recorded drums and guitar. Vocals hopefully coming within the next few weeks. So happy with how it’s turning out. Here’s a teaser with my bro, my dog, woman im dating and her friend who will be singing.

- For real, this guy grinds me so hard. Like negative Nancy for no reason at all. Just a contrarian for no reason but niche.autoflavour
- Like sure, all hardware has issues.. but even bad gear can still be used creativelyautoflavour
- The most interesting part of this video was the fact that moog was bought by inmusic along with all the other brandsimbecile
- yeah the inmusic purchase is definitely going to be a line in the sand for quality in the futureautoflavour

Melodies and lyrics mostly finalised, with demo vox recorded and fakified female filters put on for the verse and bridge. The bridge and final chorus will have all of us singing it like a choir. Waiting for my friend to be free to record proper vocals. But damnit it feels good to have this progressing so well.
https://soundcloud.com/melunoise…Funny how you get inspiration for these things from some special. First time writing a full songs lyrics too.
Lyrics
VERSE 1
Shadows dancing on the edge of the night,
Wandering thoughts are taking flight,
In the silence, echoes fade away,
Drifting closer as we find our way.PRE-CHORUS
Drifting on,
drifting on,
dreaming on,
drifting on and on and on.CHORUS
Beneath the golden rays we lie,
Whispers of the wind pass by,
In this moment, it's only you on my mind,
Two birds flying together as one,
Our wings catch the light of the sun,
Your hand in mine, the world is passing by.VERSE 2
Moonlight glowing on the distant shore,
Time moves slowly, nothing matters more,
In the stillness, everything feels right,
Lost together in the shining light.REPEAT CHORUS
BRIDGE
Endless dreams in the sky, in the sky,
Distant call, peace of mind, peace of mind.REPEAT CHORUS
REPEAT CHORUS
OUTRO
Two birds flying together as one.

My bro did help with tweaking some of the lines to suit the melody which I’m shit at. But also surprised myself by making melody suggestions while we collaborated. It has been amazing to reconnect with my bro over this.

I'm currently waiting for one of these to be delivered and was hoping it would doll up my transition to more beat driven stuff. The question that's bothered me, is why would i need anything other Ableton and plug-ins? I wanna do stuff live, so hopefully this could be part of a transition. I also have a few decent synths to try and set up too.
Anyone used the Roland TR-8S?
- These Roland machines are instantly enjoyable, great sound engine too, you'll be having fun right out the box.spl33nidoru
- ^ yes these are great for instant fun, hands-on for everything you need to control your drums in a live performance.microkorg
- Depends on your goal. If you are mostly doing tweaking playing live rather than beat programming then a controller for ableton might suit enough (Faderfox EC4)microkorg
- << and you know this isn't small, right.microkorg
- Had one of these. Great fun and would be a workhorse for live sets. I personally decided Ableton can do everything I need but everyone’s different.mort_
- Cheers guys. I wanna do more collaborative stuff and get my head around hardware. I feel this with my Novation K station and Neutron will be a good startIanbolton
- Totally get ya Mort. Maybe i'm lacking in inspiration and chucking money at a problem sometimes helps!Ianbolton
- Jamming on hardware opens up new worlds for sure!mort_
- These are dope! You can even drop your own samples into this, right?futurefood
- ^ You need a SD card and it’s a bit clunky but yeah you canmort_
- You can do everything in Ableton. But the fun spontaneous stuff, outboard hardware is always more funautoflavour
- It’s just a different way of doing things. Limitations can be very liberating but will take a while to learn how to best approachautoflavour
- < what autoflavour said.jagara
- Tweaking actual buttons is more fun.jagara
- Cheers guys. We all love tweeking nobs round here, yeah?!Ianbolton
- Good to record hardware jams (preferably multi-track) so you can later make bits of the recordings into full tunes.mort_
- ^ for the reason auto mentioned - capture the spontaneous stuff and 'lucky accidents'.mort_
- multitrack recording is definitely key hereautoflavour
- Cheers. I have an 4/8 track mixer I can run stuff through for recording, but I have no idea how to set all that up to work smoothly.Ianbolton

Ian, and anyone else interested.
I found this an informative watch. He gives good insight into what makes a good performance that the crowd 'understands when it comes to live performance.
Also interesting way he's setup the controller for live sets. He is limiting it to the 16 knobs on the controller but doing things that give the most impact in live performance.
In your post below Ian i'd recommended the Faderfox EC4 as a knob controller. Benefit of this controller is that it can have many pages and each knob detail/value is shown on the screen. So no more paper-overlays!
If you're just limiting yourself to 16 controls then something like this guy has is a win too.- Great stuff. Cheers buddy. Got loads of stuff going on at the moment, so hopefully by the new year this will be step 2.Ianbolton

This... this is why I need to stay away from YouTube music equipment vids and esp ModularGrid.net... after a few days of watching so many awesome smaller modular system vids and get’n all gas’d up, this is the result... the perfect portable S950 rave stabby setup in a smallish 52hp 6u box.
What set this off was learning about that DetroitPink87 live sequencing boutique module... then seeing a dude using a 4 track toggle switch module to quickly mute tracks on the fly, which is great for live, hence the swanky mute-buttoned MegaTang... the Cizzle module is crazy for dirty vco synth sounds, I love it. Man I’m teetering on the fence right now lol.

- this is great tooprophetone
- I wanted to love the ASQ1 .. in the end tho, sold itautoflavour
- Really? Maybe I’m in it’s spell too, like vid here, the way he’s using it, step sequenced but with extended notes etc to make more dynamic vs just triggersprophetone
- I also love the cute little TB303 ish layout with 909 push buttons... I was checking out all the used ones on eBay/Reverb today lolprophetone

It’s happening tonight! I can’t believe it’s finally happening. I did ask a few other friends to be involved including 2 Wikipedia listed artists. Sorry for showing off. Actually my bro is on Wikipedia too. But the two people I most want to sing aren’t. My bro made the melody and I wrote the lyrics.

gah gagging for the weekend.. got another beatretreat happening this weekend.. was up late last night configuring the Octatrack to try doing a bunch of new things.. after almost 10 years of owning one i have finally started using it as a sampler to actually sample things.. instead of just playback..
kind of got to a good place with it.. basically mapped the launch control XL to run it and have set it up in a way which its basically all just for sampling..
3 channels for direct sampling (thinking TV, digitakt and maybe the Virus snow) and then 4 other tracks set up to sample the inputs from the CUE of each of the other 3 ..basically sample some half bar of random TV, then send that to the CUE output which is then fed into the Patchulator with some effects so i can mangle the sample and then resample that back in
got the sample trigger set to a button so i can just trigger directly from the controller.
am thinking then I will run that Octatrack into a second Octatrack for recording longer phrases of the first samples.. but also as way to mess around making things offline without running that into the main mix as its all done live so need a way to cut the signal without accessing the mixer.
its probably totally overkill but was falling down the rabbit hole last night with some of the most simple sounds going through the effects with some good results.
over engineered, probably.. but worth it
- also just so keen to give this new Yamaha PA speaker a run .. my homie ended buying one as well so we have an actual PA at our disposal now..autoflavour
- yeah this sounds like an awesome setup and super inspiring to just mess around / make funky sounds!mantrakid
- had fun, was perhaps a bit ambitious to run double octatrack.. had weird inconsistencies between the 2 machines even tho had same project filesautoflavour
- also had too much other shit in my mind from the last weeks and work insecurity to really be able to relax into it.. was fun, but yepautoflavour
