Tips for getting rid of MP3 style compression I'm getting in udio outputs?
Music I'm doing is lo-fi/trip hop so maybe reducing bitrate? trying vinyl crackle or tape simulation may mask some of it.
Will compression help?
- microkorg2
Output straight from Udio. No post-production.
ChatGPT wrote a catchy lyric hook.
I crafted the prompt, took many attempts to get the sound I wanted. And I scripted the structure of the track.https://www.instagram.com/reel/C…
The vocals sound amazing, the breaths, phrasing and some of the pronunciation.
Udio is truly incredible when you gain control by being as specific as you can with prompts. The only flaw in the sound is the dirtyness and mp3 compression kind of sound in the percussion like the brushed snares, shakers etc. And into a bit of the drums too.
Going to try downloading the stems for this and look at producing my own drums to fit.
What you think of the sound?

Listen to BEYOND LIFE... by COSMSTRUCT. on #SoundCloud
https://on.soundcloud.com/iEGRDI've e not been on here for 7 years... Time is a strange old thing.
Hope you all don't mind me posting my music on here.
I've only recently started to make my own stuff. Hard learning curve. The torso s-4 is my most recent machine and it's pretty amazing what it can do. Make all my stuff dawless... Other than inputting samples onto the s-4.
Any feedback welcome.
- cruddlewebb! Nice to see you on here again.... and you know how i feel about your music. You are the one who got me into the S-4! You make amazing sounds!mantrakid
- thats what this thread is for.. well, that and lusting after hardware we cant or shouldnt affordautoflavour
- Thanks Nate!! You too make the sick sounds! I'll have to try and remember how to post images on here...cruddlebub
- Loving the ambience. How long do you spend making these?Ianbolton
- I spend months!! All my stuff is done using Ableton, but I have some hardware im trying to get working in my set up.Ianbolton
- Depends really. I didn't make anything for a while then bashed out 3 tracks. Now I'm struggling again. Nate (mantrakid) did send me a 10 min sample...cruddlebub
- That I cut a piece from and used as the main melody for the track B3AUTY... I do use a field recorder for ambient IRL Sounds too.cruddlebub
- Im dawless, buts only as I have learnt using physical machines as opposed to PC software. I use a dirtywave m8 to record all the live s-4 playing...cruddlebub
- As samples then lay that down as a track. Sometimes it's just the 4 tracks from the s-4. Other tracks have a bit layered in on the M8.cruddlebub
- I think with real machines, you just go with the flow, I dont every have a preset sound I want to make, it just happens. I may have an idea...cruddlebub
- But it rarely ends up sounding how I imagined it to.cruddlebub
- Same here. I never know where my stuff is going, or often what I'm doing. Love the idea of more hardware jamming. Mort and Auto both recommendedIanbolton
- I'm thinking of sounds like ingredients at the moment. Like, if i wanna cook something, I wanna know how to make it again if it's tasty AF.Ianbolton
- I used to cook, proper winging it, then realised some foods are made a specific way because they've evolved over thousands of years. The process is key!Ianbolton
- Oh for sure, you can try and shoehorn in random other genres but rarely do they go together. But vering out of a steady lane may make you produce...cruddlebub
- Something you never would of imagined. Music should be freeing. Like painting. It's art. As is cooking. But cooking can be strick.cruddlebub
- Haha. Everything i do is a mess from start to finish - if i ever finish anything! But i do love the simplicity of hummousIanbolton
- Lolcruddlebub
- And Ian, I also have loads of unfinished songs/tracks/sounds...cruddlebub
- they all lead you somewhere :-)Ianbolton

Listen to SEVERED. by COSMSTRUCT. on #SoundCloud
https://on.soundcloud.com/atWvCI've got a fair few tracks on here! Thanks for the listen's if you do
- cruddlebub1
This track is a colab with mantrakid! He let me use a ten minute ambient piece of his. Which I cut a chunk from. Mashed it up and mangled it with other sounds!!
Very Ambient, very calm and a bit crunchy.

Maschine made mostly with some vocal samples.
- Beeswax0
I want to remix some tracks, what program would you suggest to a beginner like me that is modular with a fast learning curve to create simple mixes?
- mantrakid3
Hey Beeswax! Its super hard to recommend something cuz it really depends what clicks with you -- there are sooo many rad options at this point...
Depending on what sorta source material you wanna work with i recommend checking out Koala Sampler. I think its on iOS, android and MacOS.... Its effectively a fully functional sampler/ sequencer akin to something like a SP404 hardware device!
It gets a ton of people into beatmaking and is loved even by seasoned vets for the amount of functionality and support the app gets by the dev(s).
You should be able to just load up / record samples into it, chop them into pieces, loop them and restructure them as needed. It will def have a bit of a learning curve but i dont think its bad, especially if you dedicate a couple hours to just sitting with it and maybe a youtube tutorial you can follow along with.
Check this for example:
And the good news is, if this workflow / style does NOT work for you, it rules out a bunch of other options so I and try to recommend something entirely different!
Cant wait to hear what you cook up! HMU if you have any questions, etc!
