- Will need a stand, to raise it off desk by 1cm, for when I spill tea on my desk. Else it'll suck up tea...shapesalad

- Price will be their biggest competition... I'm guessing non of this is under $1500.shapesalad

- gotta say, i'm impressed with it, specs are crazy, the thunderbolt cable is dual purpose as charges a mbp, keeping it all to a single cable... but $1599usd ooofprophetone
- I miss $999 apple cinema displays. This is too pricey for my blood. The higher end monitor laughably overpriced.ideaist
- yeah it's at least $500 over the top, but what did i expectprophetone
- The display has an a15 chip in it and videoconferencing software, studio quality mics, ambient sensors, 6 speakers, etc.monospaced
- If you take that all away it might be worth $500 less, but this is waaaay more than a monitor. It has spatial audio ffs.monospaced
- 10gb/s networking. Dude. It’s worth it.monospaced
- Orderednb
- Yeah but sitting here with MBP and studio monitors in my face so the speakers and video stuff not really needed in my case, but fair enoughprophetone
- Just want a great monitor w/o bells and whistlesprophetone
- I'll reserve judgement until I (probably never) hear the speakers. But, a basic-bitch set of bookshelf speakers will be much better, most likely.section_014
- starts at AU$2,500 here with tilt adjust stand, AU$3,100 for tilt/height adjust! Bloody nice though, will prob still get one!sab
- Work just ordered these, I’ll let you know. Pretty happy with the LG 5k/27 so it will be interesting to see if the display quality is better.slappy
- You can EASILY save $800 and get a good monitor without bells and whistles. This is just more.monospaced

Need to upgrade again :))

I've got the M1 Mac Mini and have been waiting to see what the next upgrade would be. I can get a trade-in value of $456 towards something new, but at this point I don't think it makes sense to upgrade to even the lower end of the new one. Were I recording constantly and pushing the limits of Logic Pro it would be one thing, but as it is the Mini M1 is perfectly fine and I'm still glad I made the jump from a 2017 iMac.
- how is it for AE?shapesalad
- I don't do AE work. At best, my most intensive use is Logic Pro and Lightroom.mg33

$1599 USD plus $3999 for the m1 ultra
so $6600 for top end, yikes!
curious to see what the iMac Pros come in at

Well, there goes $4500. Bought.

- The $2k one with upgraded SSD and monitor. New keyboard and trackpad. After taxes, $4500. Poof!ArmandoEstrada

- (Yes, I know, get a new SSD and fix it. It was BTO so a new SSD was $600. Rather upgrade instead.)ArmandoEstrada

Oh, Apple, whose gonna buy that 512GB version? Why even fucking bother? Just to milk an extra $200 straight away? Apple's gonna Apple, I guess.

Too bad the bezels on the screen aren't a bit smaller and a 32'' inch would've been nice too.
Also disappointed no Space Grey version of the MacStudio.

Those looking for a longer cord are in luck — at a price: a 1.8-meter version costs $129, and a three-meter version soon to be available will go for $159.

Apple unveiled a new standalone monitor—the $1599 Studio Display—that includes your choice of either a tilt-adjustable stand or a VESA wall mount adaptor. But for $400 more, you can purchase a fancier tilt and height-adjustable version of that stand. In the Apple universe, a 5K retina display monitor and stand aimed at the consumer market priced just shy of $2000 is a steal. Be forewarned: If you're partial to non-reflective surfaces, shooting for nano-texture glass on the Studio Display is another additional $300.
- $2500 for the whole package,
with a 3m cable and all that junk.sted - You forgot about adding AppleCare+jmckinno
- just buy a few design books to sit the monitor on. save some money.shapesalad

- Apple monitors have been $1300- $3000 for decades. Like Apple Cinema was $2000 in 2002 dollars! Why does this seem expensivenb

So a $6K MacStudio is faster than a fully maxed out $50K'ish Mac Pro?
That was fast. Curious what the Mac Pro Apple silicon version will be like.

What USB-C / Thunderbolt / USB 3 or 4 external hard drives are you guys using?
On my Mac mini I have an external USB 2 hard drive that I primarily use for my working files in Logic Pro.
Are there any cheap 1TB USB 4 / Thunderbolt 3 drives out there? Seemed difficult to find them when I was searching yesterday.
Connections and Expansion
Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports with support for:
DisplayPort
Thunderbolt 3 (up to 40 Gb/s)
USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s)
USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10 Gb/s)
Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA supported using adapters (sold separately)- i don't think any drives can write that fast (even m2 etc), i could be wrong but you're not going to gain any speed over USB3kingsteven
- with a single external drive that is... I think SATA3 is <6Gbps - I imagine there's some folks using TB3 RAIDkingsteven
- Wow, i didn't realise external TB2 m2 raid enclosures exist https://www.tomshard…kingsteven

Also, were there any benchmark specs provided for the new M1s that are easily comparable to the M1 Mac mini? Really curious to see how even the low end new one compares to what I've got.
- For now, you can compare this https://i.imgur.com/… to some of these: https://browser.geek…grafician
- you have this? https://browser.geek…grafician
- so single core is comparable, but multi core the new ones are over 3x better :))grafician
