I was recently offered a full time position in very nice agency in the city I live. I been working freelance from home (or other agencies) for about 4 years or so..
Still trying to decide what am I going to do...
thoughts?

weigh out the pros and cons then make your decision.
think about this though, if full-time doesn't pan out you already know you can make it freelance.
good luck with your decision.

Best time to take a job is went you dont really need it.
Take advantage of paid vacations and holidays for a while. If you hate it, you can always go back.
of course, you still have nites and weekends to keep freelancing too

hmmm..
its rough.. I like the place a lot, the current team of people is really talented, wich means I could learn a lot...

I have 35 days left, but then I'm kind of freelance anyway i guess

this can be a great opportunty to save some money instead of having to pay out so much on taxes thru your freelancing.
it can give you the freedom to enjoy the time off from the constant hussle of finding that next gig, and give you the opporttun ity to put yourself in a new environment and allow yourself to meet new contacts tht may yeild other opportunities that thru freelancing you may never get.
i would do it, but make lists of what are your pros and cons on each kind of job and weigh that out before you make the decision.
a benefit package that pays your insurance would allievate a lot of stress off my freelancing shoulders that i would take in a heartbeat.
live your life on their dollar for a change and see how it changes you and how you adjust to its nature.
good luck!!

thanks epill..
that sounds about right...

I think if I'd been successful freelancing for 4 years I'd find it difficult to work for someone else.
Still, as everyone's said, weigh up the pros and cons of both. I'm sure it'll be a reasonably clear decision in the end.

I left freelancing behind to go nack to full-time work once. It made me feel like a caged animal. An awful feeling I never really shook until I went back to freelancing several years later.
The only pros I can think of is consistent, predictable pay, paid vacations and health insurance on the cheap. Your lifestyle determines how big those pros are. The cons all come down to lack of control for me. No say on your schedule, type of work your doing, business decisions, pay, and when you have to wear pants.
This is coming from someone who is flush with work for the time being. When things were going so hot is when I thought the job looked like a good idea, for obvious reasons.

I've beeen freelancing since july of 04. looking for a staff job now, which doesn't seem to exist in LA.

I've been freelancing for awhile now too. It all depends on where you are at mentally now. Want a change? Need more predictability when it comes to finance?
Since I'm getting married in 2 months sometimes I think about going full-time somewhere. But usually my afternoon nap snaps me out of the thinking. HAHAH

afternoon naps!!!
yeh!!!

(Sep 27 07, 10:26)In LA, you can't find a job?
I got a few offers from agencies up there when I wasn't even looking...Look around Krop man there should be tons of work...

hey your in SD sweet. who you thinking about joining? (you dont have to answer that)
I was freelancing for a while, then I made a deal to work for a studio on a couple big projects that would take a couple months.
Now I feel like a full time guy and it kinda sucks, Dont get me wrong the place is great and the work is sweet its just I am really not an office guy.
If money is not the main issue think about what kinda day you want to have. office day or a work at home day.
also these guys might have access to better clients than you do on your own.
blaahh I dont think I helped. :)

consider the value of your current freelance client list.. most will probably go find longterm freelance talent elsewhere if you go get yourself employed.

i went back to work recently from freelance too... and its very hard.
I find myself just not as motivated, and feeling like a caged animal at times, because of just the time and freedom that freelance gives. If you have been freelancing for 4 years and don't have any financial issues, etc. Then that would be difficult to leave. A steady paycheck and getting someone else to do your accounting is nice, but for me personally, it is very very hard.

sofa, yeah the studio is here in SD and they do outstanding work. I rather not say yet, cause nothing is final. Still thinking about it.
I am on a similar deal with a few agencies were I work by project too, I still consider that freelance.
Where are you in sd sofa?
- sofakingzero0
Central SD, I live in city heights right now (the skreets lol)
The clients im currently working with are in north county.
a lot of good clients up there.

I can't do afternoon naps. Makes me feel too lazy. Especially since I already get like 8-10 hours of sleep every night.
- Jaline0
As for your question, I like k0na's response.
Making a list of pros and cons and then weighing each individual point is basically a must in this situation.
You could try the full-time thing for a while and then leave if it doesn't work out.
I currently work at an office and it's great during the year because I only work once a week. As a student, this is perfect since I make money + have benefits + have interaction with people around me + have references, etc. I'm not sure I would continue the office job forever, but right now it's getting me further in life.
- e-pill0
you're lucky Jaline, i have a hyper thyroid and i only sleep max 4 hours a day.
then im up again.
