gramme, here's a way to solve your problem - just stop using the label 'Christian'. then you can spend less time defending your beliefs, and separating yourself from the rest of 'them' - and more time setting an example and sharing the word of God - or whatever it is you hope to do.
whether you like it or not, you are the minority - even if it's just a perception that's a result of you being less vocal than the zealots and fundamentalists that have been tarnishing the name for years, to most it's a reality.

3pt, where do you come up with this shit? Can you find me one example of a soldier who claims to be a Christian in recent memory who actually, knowingly, blew up a family, raped a woman or slaughtered innocent children? Just because someone comes from a country that it typically characterized as "Christian" (oh, we are so, so, far from that), it doesn't mean that all of our soldiers are Christians!
Now I'm not at all supportive of the Iraq war. I think it's a travesty that was predicated on the horrendous foreign policy of preemptive strikes. I personally would not go into the military knowing that I could be conscripted to fight in such an unjust war.

I know, SteveJobs, you're right about the name being tarnished, and that words are only useful when bolstered by action... but I think I'll keep the Christian title, since I am and will always be a CHRIST-ian.
This is why on my facebook page it doesn't say "Evangelical" or "Presbyterian", rather it says "Christ-follower".
- although I am unabashedly Reformed Presbyterian, that doesn't mean anything to most people :)gramme

Yes, I'll never understand how Christianity and George Bush's agenda somehow became synonymous to most people.

"Yep, you're 200% right DrBombay. My dad has always said "The Devil's favorite place to hang out is church."Scary thought, but I can agree with that.
- You can agree with evil spirits controlling human being's actions?Mimio
- more like bad people pretending to be good, to manipulate honest people into doing bad things, thnking that they are morally correctMeeklo
- they are morally correct...
Not sure where you came up w the spirits..Meeklo - I hear you.Mimio
- Isn't the Devil an "evil spirit"?Mimio
- if you believe in spirits.. I guess..
I use it to define people doing bad things.Meeklo

well I'm no sheep either. I fail to see your point. Most Christians have been against the war since it's birth.
– designbot3/3Really?
So that thing about religion being the number 1 cause of war since the beginnings of humankind was all a lie?- well... not really a lie so to speak, more like a little joke? (nervous chuckle) Religion is business, and it's very odd.Arvizu

23kon is right on, explain to me lutheranism, protestantism, methodism, whatever-ism.
the religion morphs itself to be exactly what those people, in that area, want it to be, at that point in time.

Might have already been mentioned, but I still love the Jews For Jesus brochure, and keep a copy in my idea box. It's basically a three-fold brochure with some chick on the front holding her hand up with the copy reading, "I'm good." Then it goes on to explain how living a life for Jesus can help you overcome the cold-shoulder you have towards being preached too.
- Honestly just think it's a clever concept, cause when I got my first one, I said "I'm good".dMullins

* opens door to this thread...
sees lots of tense folks debating religion passionately...
closes door quietly and exits...

Jesus was balls out. He did some str8 up shaight nobody else would or could do and yes did claim himself as a deity. Seems these days you have to be inside of a miracle for any of my peers to understand the depth of passion of purpose of holy spirit. Personally i experienced heavy weighted love i could hardly explain as coincidence that attests only to YHWH love. kierkegaard purity of love is a good read along with watchman nee or sermons by j vernon mcgee. i found chick tracts to go offbase sometimes but two i always liked because they were so tripped out:
