Regardless of whether one actually believes the Bible is the word of God, it's difficult to argue, and impossible to prove, that the Bible's authors believed the words they were writing were anything less than the inspired word of God, rather than any sort of human-generated message.

You really can't beat a good banter!
The thing that really gets me going is that Christians can't face their belief system being questioned.
This is highly amusing.I mean really, if you are a person who is seeking "enlightenment" or the answers of the world then surely you should be open to other suggestions.
One of my beliefs - there was a big bang, things were created, we evolved from monkeys and now have computers!
Now, if someone came along and gave a pretty damn good arguement for that being false and that we are infact all just in the dream of a space monster i'd at least entertain it.

Gramme, i'm not anti-christian btw
I just like a good banter. It's fair enough if people feel the need to follow something, a belief and to have a structure about their life or have something to fear.
Nothing wrong with that. It's when the Christian Church themselves try to keep up the stories that were born when the world was a lot more niave and maintain that it is 100% truth.
C'mon - it is 2008!
We evolved from monkeys - Not Adam and Eve
And I suspect that God did not create the world in Six Twentyfour Hour Political Days.

23kon,
Take any christian claiming person on this site and I don't see how you could say "Christians can't face their belief system being questioned"
All I have seen is an attempt to counter some of false ideas about Christianity that propagate here. Debating with respect.....don't see anything wrong with that.

I say, let them believe what ever they want. As long as they don't poison my ears with their own beliefs.. who cares? it brings them joy right?
Who am I to judge other people's beliefs? Who am I to tell them, that their choices on this life are incorrects and that they will get punished for it later down the road?
If you do that, then you have no respect for others, but worse of all, you are lowering to their level.

to believe we all descend from adam and eve is insanity.
- designbot0
^why?
And is it as insane to believe the universe, and consequently man came to be out of absolutely nothing.

Meeklo .....
the thing is though - the christian church IS allowed to freely promote itself with pamphlets or by broadcasting on primetime tv - hours on sunday afternoons on the BBC even! invading MY living room or MY personal space on the street - Pushing their beliefs on me - trying to get me involved somehow.
yet other beliefs arent.
why do they get precedence?THIS is what does my head in!
- kind of like advertising, huh? ;)pizzafire
- well, not sure in that farm you live in, here we have all sort of religions promoting themselves,Meeklo
- mormons, science-teologysts, evangelicals, christians, catholics, etc.Meeklo
- Meeklo - they are all types of Christianity except Scientology

You know what I hae, the evangelical church that leaves pamphlets on my car windshield. If it rains it turns into mush and gums up my wipers. If it doesn't rain it forces me to decide if I should throw it on the ground and litter (I her Jesus in my head "Not cool dude.."and then I argue back.."Yeah but one of your buddies stuck this thing on my window, man! Throwing the first stone! The FIRST stone!!")..or I get stuck with it on my dashboard for a few days...
The last one was asking for donations to help defend Pastor Tony from the "apparently baseless" lawsuit against him for child abuse.
I kept that one.

23kon, if you were coming from the other side (like I am) you would probably see the exact opposite. I would say that media in general is pretty anti-christian. I even see this message in some of the cartoons my son watches. Sure maybe there are some televangalists who get their air-time, but when do you see the Christian God being talked about in anything mainstream?
- It's not anti-christian in cartoons (you mean like the simpsons & family guy etc?) ...23kon

what about other religions? If you were born in Pakistan do you think you would have the same religion you do right now? It's all societal.
- TheBlueOne0
I don't give a shit about what the Bible says about dinosaurs and DNA or monkey-people. If that's where you want to set up camp to have your little war on the world, you go right ahead.
I do happen to believe or rather interpret Jesus message as this: The Kingdom of Heaven is Here. Now. All the other stuff before is just distracting legal bullshit. Heaven. Here. Now. Act accordingly to the person next to you.
I happen to think that's really all it says, but it's mad genius in it's simplicity and beauty. And in being, as I like to say, a truth truer than true. Many others who have held a similar interpretation have been burned at stakes, real and proverbial, for about a few thousand years but th whole priestly/legalistic side of the whole thing. But that's common to all religions..you have the mystics on one side and the priests on the other.
The priests are always bastards. Always.
- And all this evolution dinosaur crap comes from the priestly side of things.TheBlueOne

Anyway...back to the pamphlets...
