Seems perhaps kids learning on softsynths and "EDM" in the US have spurred this new wave of hardware??? Crazy to see what Korg, Akai and Roland are doing these days.
- and it's reflected in the way it all sounds the same.lessfloor
- must be a design thing eh! ;)lessfloor
- its pretty easy to see what korg, akai and roland are doing these days..autoflavour
- they are releasing hardwareautoflavour
- although i would argue that they are just responding to the market.. and people want analogueautoflavour
- lots of interesting genre's crop up - seapunk, gwave, vaporwave etc... Not all sounding the same.inteliboy

This year it's all about analogue gear.
Next year it'll all be about VST's and running 13" laptops because the masses realised that it's a lot of trouble to lug around a pile of analogue gear, hook it all up and get it all in sync and working together.
- autoflavour0
I cant see laptop making a resurgence like Analogue has anytime soon. I can still remember back in 2001 when I first watched Jan Jelinek/Farben play his live set from an G4 Powerbook and a midi controller..
everyone in the audience was a bit speechless that he was able to do what he did just using a laptop..
a few years later, it was so common place that it was almost considered cheating if you were JUST using a laptop.. regardless if it was your own music or not..
then it kind of normalised with serato and once dj's got over their vinyl purism.
Analogue fetishism has always been there, its just lately with the prices of original gear increasingly becoming more and more expensive, the kids want techno.. and companies like Korg and Akai are listening..

Considering learning Logic, Ableton or Bitwig Studio when it comes out.
What would you recommend?
I make house music, have been using Reason for years and been v.lazy in learning latest software as know Reason so well - but its limiting now and need to progress.
I have Logic Pro. so cheapest option but what is the most intuitive for composing / arrangements / general direct playing with sounds?
- uuuuuu0
^ableton. you don't know it yet you need to now. you'll be making house music very fast and intuitively, its fun to use. logic seems more like a multitrack recording software/editor, it would be good for mastering or doing a final mix down from ableton but not so much for composing, arranging and making stuff. you can always throw reason into the ableton stuff.
- yep I thought Ableton would be better for throwing stuff about. Thanksfadein11

Definitely Ableton.. and run Reason in rewire mode

If Ableton Live scares you then Bitwig will too as it's much the same thing.
I'd describe my first sessions with Ableton Live much like my first experiences with Adobe Flash. There's a bit of a steep initial learning curve then something just suddenly clicks and you get it.
If you know anyone that uses Ableton Live then see if they'll give you a quick rundown of stuff or sit and work on a quick song together to see how stuff it done. Your local music store might be able to help you get started too. And there's a wealth of tutorials on YouTube and Dubspot is worth a look too.If EDM fuckwits can get the hang of Ableton Live then I'm sure you can too ;)
- thanks - I decided to go with Logic Pro X - giving that a go - good value and loving it so far.fadein11
- < i agree it's great!lessfloor
- perfect for studiowork but seems like ableton is the way for live.lessfloor
- i kinda hate logic. feel like i'm fighting software, rather than just writing tunes.inteliboy
