^ That AKAI looks pretty damn tidy - it reminds me of the red and blue MPC1000's that they did.
They should have been working on an IOS/Tablet controller like this instead of the Ren being a controller for a PC and trying to beat NI's Maschine at a game.
If they had a kickass sampler/sequencer software app that could be used on an ipad/phone/tablet then plugged into a box like this a lot of the hiphop heads would dive back to akai for sure and leave their laptops and maschines at home.

Today let's talk hard drives.
Going to install Win8 on my laptop and then install Maschine 2.0 (upgrade from 1.8) and Komplete 9 (Upgrade from Elements).
I've got a 256GB SSD which will end up being too small spacewise if I try to install everything on there.
So.... do I either ...
Get a 500GB/1TB SSD and install all on there
or
Keep the 256 in there and get an external drive and install all the libraries (most of the bulk of Komplete) onto it?
I've heard the latter will make for better performance. Will it improve my already good SSD performance?
Downside of an external is that I have to plug it in when wanting to make music or remember to take it with me! It's not handy for making tunes on lap and having an external drive hanging down beside me.
Could get one of those Kingston HyperX flash drives I guess. But at that price I'd be as well getting an internal.
I initially thought that I'd be able to install ALL of Komplete (including the Applications) onto an external but it's not recommended - ANYONE TRIED IT?
This would be great to be able to do as you could take all your samples, instruments etc and work on different computers and just point the base Maschine / Ableton Live programs towards your VST's and Libraries and have everything just plugin and work.Anyone got any thoughts?

^ sold both my Sidstation and Machinedrum about 10 years ago, remember thinking when Daniel Hansson died that would be the end of Elektron. Really loving this generation of gear though... must have watched this Analog Keys video 20 times now... considering making the plunge.

My first WHOLE song with my Teenage Engineering OP-1.
Had it since about November but have not had the time to really get my head down and get into it let along put together a song.I put this together as an entry for a 'battle' on the ohpeewon forum. Brief was to use the new "sketch" sequencer and the DSynth as well as samples from an Alfred Hitchcock movie. I opted for Rear Window.
Really learned a lot about the instrument working to a deadline and it's made me change my mind about the thing. I was on the fence about selling it but this has made me realise how much fun it can be and what a great portable beatmaker it is - probably moreso than my ipad as it feels much more of an instrument than a computer.
It's a bit rough around the edges, but enjoy.

Thinking of buying Maschine Mikro. Is this a good idea?
I need a good controller and like the look of the effects and sounds.
it says it integrates well with Logic but does it in reality?
I would rather keep my different tracks all in Logic and not do any composition in Maschine - is this easy or is it easier the other way round?
V.new to these controllers - any recommendations would be appreciated - thanks.

I don't know much but regarding what u say, your more looking for an APC type of controller. Maschine are more MPC type workstation, build to compose tracks.

I'm liking the gorg gadget alot. I only wish there was a way to get the midi out and into logic or ableton :(

If you are looking to use the Maschine as a "controller" too then don't bother with the Mikro just splash out on the full Maschine (not studio).
Even just using Maschine software with Mikro is a pain and you'd wish you'd splashed out on the full thing with the 8 knobs to control 8 macros at once (rather than just 1 at a time with the mikro). The out the box library you get with Maschine is really good. And the sound packs they sell (for ok price) is always full of decent beats n pieces.
Dont get mikro. just get the full thing ;)
