Not sure if this has been posted, but found a resource for programming breaks – especially nice on the TR-8 you bought autoflavour. http://www.ethanhein.com/wp/2010…
There is also a spreadsheet of patterns laid out for reference
https://docs.google.com/spreadsh…The Funky Drummer break at 105 BPM went well with my Alpha Juno supplying rave bass (why not!)
- Also found moving the shuffle to just before 12 o'clock/straight up and down, gave it a nice swing.emphor

So just treated myself to an early christmas present.
Arturia V Collection 6.I was initially just going to buy the Buchla Easel for about £80 as didnt have the 399 Euros to shell out on the current offer - that goes back up to 499 Euros soon.
Saw an Arturia reseller in the states selling on eBay for $399 but also taking offers. I offered $320 (about £240) and they accepted.
Cha-ching!
Currently downloading everything from Arturia site.
Happy holidays!!!
- it's weird, they have these amazing VST's, though their patches/banks sound shit, and modern, and very DAW. Needs a lot of tweaking to get authentic sounds.inteliboy
- ie. good luck finding anything remotely Vangelis out of their CS80 vst.inteliboy
- Not hugely into the need for these vst's to sound authentic to the hardware. Its new synths and sounds i was after +much more then spending the same on hardwaremicrokorg
- quite a learning curve in front of you! i bought the vox continental (probably one of their simplest) last year and still discovering stuff...kingsteven
- btw. if you haven't yet, get a go on that continental! not the most interesting on the face of it, but such a recognisable sound.. + works like glue in a mix.kingsteven

TR8 is fun.. just a drum machine, but lots of fun regardless

A D.J. Could Save Your Life Tonight
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/…
"Good D.J.s are extraordinary artists, and great D.J.s are transcendent magicians. The art requires extensive musical knowledge. It demands technical know-how. It turns one into a psychologist and reader of moods in order to gauge the whims of a dance floor. And it insists that you spend days, weeks and years learning how to mix flawlessly."
- even just a dj with taste and alert of their surroundings with zero technical skills is going to be better than 99% out there tonight! stay safe.kingsteven
- ‘Mix flawlessly...’ so ridiculous, some of my fave 90s mixes are events or shows where it’s off the railsprophetone
- Check out pretty much any LTJBukem rave event from then, he would ping pong between jungle breaks as transitions, it was wildprophetone
- Or any real hiphop or house mix by djs like stretch armstrong, 45king, maw, mixmastermike, etc. it’s real, messy and raw, honest. my pref anyway.prophetone
- problem is i suppose nowadays, these kids will spill their martinis if they experience a dj performance w/o any flawless auto beat syncing at a consistent bpmprophetone
- get off my lawn! hahaprophetone
- Once you have mastered the over-emphasis of knob tweaking then you are truly a DJ Master. :Pmicrokorg

I also got the invite to check out www.tracklib.com which is reallllllly interesting - will shake things up in industry for emerging producers and possibly give way to a 90s sampled sound revival. has an impressive catalog so far, nice and clean site, well organized - I like it.

I've been messing with VCV Rack for the last week. Gotta say, I'm really impressed. It's worth looking into just for the Mutable Instruments modules (which I've mostly been using).
Sound quality is on par with anything else I use. The filters in Reaktor blocks are better, but I'm doing more of a West Coast/FM thing with it, so that's not a big deal. Plus, most software filters are noticeably off compared to analog.
Can totally see this taking off in the next few years.
- Great thing is that its open source. It's gonna hurt the likes of Reaktor and SoftTubemicrokorg
- prophetone1
- Wut? Why? FM8 is 1/5 the cost, has double the operators, and most likely much easier to edit.section_014
- Is this just for people who have to have hardware no matter what? I don't see the appeal at all.section_014
- yeah not really for me. the digitakt however is right up my alley, except for the fact it doesn't currently support a song mode function...prophetone
- would rather wavetables than FM, i cant imagine getting much more from this than the volca fm in use with other gear.kingsteven

This thing sounds infinitely perplexing, please take my money.

Winter Namm has been way too much wacky shit like the 9 necked guitar or just endless modular..
need to see something that moves me..
- see vcv rack for endless modular. and a lot cheaper! ;)microkorg

in other news, finally bit the bullet and got a sub for my studio.. only to realise that my studio is just too small to contain it all..
unless its at barely audible levels, the sub just makes my entire studio rattle like a cheap car from the 1950's ..
its so disappointing.
- creativity doesn't requires large space :Dsted
- got a breezeblock under mine. was unbearable before. tbh i got it to hear what mixes are like on club systems and folk's systems with too much bass.kingsteven
- ... kinda came to the conclusion that ever thinking that a 7" sub in a spare room reacts anything like even a small club system was retarded ...kingsteven
- would love a pair of monitors with 12" drivers, but not in my current place!kingsteven
