Roland Release TR-8 S .. like it’s some sort of fucking iPhone or something. Here is an idea .. just add these fucking features on the first drum machine.. nothing u have added is ground breaking technology.. u could have release all of this the first time.. instead of instantly junking the value of existing hardware.Although very appreciative that it not longer looks like some bad prop from Tron movies
Also, blue platting bag girl is cute

- "bogie"... interesting lyricsshapesalad
- daft, but three roland boxes for the price of an elektron unit and on the same release schedule... they know what they're doing.kingsteven
- I don't get how you properly compose music on these sorts of things. It's like making a website using squarespace, effectively stuck to a template.shapesalad
- once you have something good, do you then mute each part and record it into a DAW and then mix it? etc. seems quicker/more flexible to go straight to the daw.shapesalad
- For live it’s fun..autoflavour
- Another Black&Green Tandy/RadioShack 90s Mixer style monstrosity!microkorg
- Shapesalad, audio via USB into DAW gives you each output channel as a channel in Daw. This is a LIVE PERFORMANCE / JAMMING drum machine rather than ...microkorg
- .. more of a composing thing like Push + Ableton Live. I can see it being great fun to jam with as it has lots of hands-on controls.microkorg
- SD Total REcall is nice idea. But ANOTHER XOXO 606707808909 box. Really?!microkorg
- meh. Wave Alchemy Revolution and a midi controller (or two) is better, imo.section_014

I'm going to ask a really dumb question. Is there a name for the technique of matching a bass note or bass line with a kick drum in a steady rhythm, where the impact of that bass note has a nice little punch from the kick happening at the same time? I hear it in songs all the time, can't think of an example at the moment.
- you mean an 808 bass tone/kick?
or do you mean sidechaining where everything drops for the kick?
bit confused what you mean. if laying bass and kick on top offadein11 - each other one needs most of it's bottom end removed (in most instances).fadein11
- I'll see if I can find an example. Basically I mean where all bass notes are aligned and only as long as that kick hit. It's this sound I hear a lot where themg33
- bassline has a little extra emphasis because the notes are all aligned with the kick drum pattern. At least that's how it sounds to me.mg33
- think I know what you mean. Drum & Bass type things, sub-bassline underneath kick pattern?fadein11
- Yeah, that might be correct. I'll do my best to find an example.mg33
- Layering, or Expanding?keewee
- accent? like the bass would accent the kick, or vice versa?futurefood
- I think you mean you write the bass line melody rhythm to match the kick drum. Its a good technique, glues the track/music.shapesalad

- makes things too tight for me, bassline should groove around the kickfadein11
- you mean an 808 bass tone/kick?

^^^ I think you're referring to "side chaining". Dudes like Flying Lotus would do it a lot, but not necessarily with kicks and bass. They would drop the whole track down when the kick hit.
As far as your kick and bass sounding good (assuming both are synthesized), I like to tune my kick and bass a perfect fifth apart from one and other. It's like a power chord.
- I thought he may mean side chaining also below but not sure he is, we need an example.fadein11
- shapesalad0
^^^ I think you're referring to either simply composing a bass line or playing a bass line, in time and matching the kick drum rhythm. nice and tight. emphasises the rhythm. Common across all genres. Opposite of playing a syncopated bass line, where by your bass notes are played in between the kick drum hits. Seems there's not term of that, perhaps 'on the beat' or 'straight':
https://www.reddit.com/r/musicth…
Or you could be referring to how the kick drum goes a little further than a kick sound, and sounds more like a musical note?
In which case you stick a Sub-Bass Synthesizer on your kick track and dial in a frequency that matches your songs root note - or go for 62.5hz.
I usually use this free plugin aptly named 'Sub-Bass Synthesier' and go for 62.5hz, can be had from here:
http://mda.smartelectronix.com
See here for info about freq hz:
https://lachlanbarclay.net/2006/…
And then as section_014 mentions, side chain it to make it punch through the mix.

- insert effect per channel is useful.. but yep, not need another drum machine.autoflavour
- drums are the one thing I find a DAW (over hardware) to be more flexible and creative/fast to use...inteliboy
- drum machines are awesome fast, useful parts .. but taking it past that its a bit of a pain. but getting a good beat down then into Ableton, its endless.autoflavour

been tracking the last few days, finished up on my favourite poly synth of all time... video is a lackluster headphone tripod job at the end of a long day waiting for the wine to arrive. didn't even realise until i watched it back that the studio was red... fucked. sure, there are worse ways to go blind and deaf... going to sleep now and hope that when I wake every passing ambient sound doesn't sound like there's a track in it.
