For those trying to get ripped for the summer, after bulking up during winter
In the end of your normal workout:
Interval climbing on a treadmill the way i do it:
Set incline to 15 degrees, speed 8-10km/h
(15-20 sec running, 10-15 sec rest) x 10, to get your pulse to 170
No more than 5 min- done!ohhhhhsnap
- did this last night for 5 min. felt good! got my pulse to a little over 170. what does this do exactly?ohhhhhsnap

I kind of like this mens' fitness site:
"However, if users are able to practice some moderation with alcohol, a drink or two on occasion will not effectively poison your body and make you irreparably fat. There are some studies that suggest moderate alcohol consumption can provide health benefits. Much has been made of the heart-healthy components of a glass of red wine, but did you know that moderate beer consumption can improve your immune response and can reduce harmful C-reactive proteins (linked to heart disease)? All in all, alcohol is harmful when overdone. It can mess with your digestive system, liver, and diet. But if done within moderation and with clear judgment, it can be beneficial, and of course a ton of fun."

- cool! Occasional Red wine is widely regarded as good for you. I personally don't drink though (not a fan).Hombre_Lobo
- Hombre that's awesome. You probably just don't need it.ohhhhhsnap

The main ingredient in beer: http://beerarmy.com/profiles/blo…
But it can def. lower your libido, and have a wealth of health issues if taken in high quantities (obvi)

i really like going to the gym @ night (9p), is that so bad?
went to the bar X the street from my gym to play pool w/ a friend and the bartender giggled in my face when I ordered Agustora (made in my country, fyi) and a seltzer. She's used to me pounding wiskey and IPA's #turntdown!

I was sick of using the machines at the gym, so I googled how to start with free weights.
As many others, I found the 5x5 stronglifts program. It has recieved a lot of criticism because the "inventor" (it's an adaptation on another classic program) tries to make money from it by having seminars and making the forum members only and such, but the info (and the app) is free.
The program demands that you hit the gym three times a week, but I have found that I'm actually looking forward to going to the gym nowadays rather than dreading it like I did before.
Anyways, you will learn 5 basic exercises:
1. Squats
2. Bench Press
3. Barbell row
4. Military press
5. Deadliftsand you alternate between two routines:
A:
5 x 5 squats
5 x 5 bench press
5 x 5 barbell rowB.
5 x 5 squats
5 x 5 military press
1 x 5 deadliftsstart with an empty barbell (20 kg) or, for deadlifts and barbell row, the smallest bumper weight.
The next time you do the exercise, add 2,5 kg (the app will help you keep track). For deadlifts, add 5 kg.
Always rest at least 1:30 mns between sets, and one day between A and B. If one week is A, B, A, the next week you'll do B, A, B.
If you should fail at some point, go back two notches on the weights and keep going from there.
Do it for 12 weeks.
It feels a bit silly at first to not have any weights on the barbell, but you'll get over it. It will also feel a bit slow in the beginning, but keep adding the weight slowly. Soon enough, it'll be hard. Focus on doing the exercises with correct form and don't skip on the three times a week.
- thanks!ohhhhhsnap
- I also run on rest days. The goal for me is to be strong and healthy, not big (but it doesn't hurt).lnu

i keep hearing lifters scoffing at cardio, saying it works against getting muscle gainz by using up bodily resources that could instead go to muscle production.
i hated it myself and wouldn't do cardio but lately i have been and it's upped my endurance, which i think is equally important. i feel like you can get really big and only be able to use it for short bursts but with cardio you condition your body to doing work for longer periods.
is this something any of you have seen or is this just conjectural broscience?
- section_0140
Cardio is catabolic, so it does work against gaining muscle if you're on a bulk (bro!). I defintely agree with the endurance, and overall conditioning aspect associated with cardio. Something about slow vs. fast twitch muscles.
As far as hating it, anything done in the gym is torture. I bought a bicycle earlier this year, and have been really enjoying it. I refuse to buy fucking tights though.
- you'll be in spandex in no time if you keep riding.capn_ron
