teleos, please keep your f-in propaganda to yourself. We get it, you are a very devout follower of Jesus and his teachings. Faith should be kept private.
This thread is about the absolutely bat shit bonkers Evangelicals ( which make up about 29% of our population, a huge fucking number). These people should have their kids taken away from them, it is sick. They are breeding ignorance and closed minded drones.
This movie makes me want to vomit each time I watch it, but yet I am intrigued at how blind a human being can become. I have said this before... I have no issues with God. but his fan club scares the shit out of me.

I've found it incredibly interesting in talking to people in other countries about their religions, especially in areas of India. Not that I’m religious, but the theories and stories are interesting to hear, and how different people look on faith and the energy of life.
It's hard for me to believe anyone would say "my god is the right god and yours is wrong". That type of arrogance is sad to me... and extremely dangerous.
- It's arrogant unless God is the one saying "I'm the only way."gramme

You guys better be scared shitless, because they will be validating what is going on "earthquakes/ volcano/ viruses on the wrath of god,
I've never hidden my religious background, but you should be all scared of them because, hmmmm how can I say it, they are fuckn crazy...
Good luck on the upcoming american religious war.

don't worry about the kids. in most cases, they'll grow up, take drugs, start thinking on their own, and make their own decisions about religion and spirituality. that's what i did ... and i turned out fine!
do worry about the christian political agenda though. the real world is not as black and white as christians would like to it to be (including the political world). this is also nothing new.
- also, i'll be skipping this film. seen enough of this shit while growing up.pizzafire

I'm not sure who wrote the law, or in what free country it's enforced, that people can't share their faith with one another. As long as everyone's being civil about it, there's no harm being done by a Hindu discussing their faith with a Christian, or a Jew discussing their faith with a Muslim, etc. etc. People should be able to agree or respectfully disagree with one another, even when each person in a conversation is staking claims of absolute truth that are mutually exclusive.
In my experience, it's usually (1) irreligious people, (2) people who are nominal adherents of a faith they don't really practice, or (3) people who are violent fundamentalists who want others to keep their faith private. I think what it comes down to is this: people find the notion of absolute truth abhorrent and arrogant. Most people do not like being told that they can't believe whatever they want and expect everything to turn out golden. I know in my own experience, I used to hate being told that Jesus is "the way, truth, and life."

I think extremists, no matter what side of the fence they're on, are total whack jobs. And I think anyone forcing their view on their children, rather than teaching them to make their own decisions, shouldn't be allowed to be parents.
- Isn't suggesting that some entity be empowered to decide who should be parents rather extremist?luckyorphan

Define "forcing" one's view on children, please. I ask because I have yet to see a parent of any religious or irreligious persuasion who does not teach ideas about spirituality and morality to their children in whatever ways seem best to them.
To refrain from teaching children what one believes is not giving them freedom. It's being negligent. Without any sort of spiritual guidance, they'll flounder.
It's possible to teach a child what you think is best about life, the universe, and everything—all while training them to think for themselves rather than to accept everything without question.
BTW I haven't seen this movie, so I have nothing to offer on any of its pros or cons.

- but children are very impressionable. teaching them to think for themselves is fine and desirable but they'll end up being heavily shaped by what the parent's religious leaning are no matter whatspifflink

- Yeah, I think that's a given. They're heavily influenced by what we believe or don't believe.gramme
